10. Isle of Frost

by on March 14, 2021

Isle of Frost

Set sail for the Isle of Frost, located at the northeast corner of the Southeast Sea. As you approach the island you will notice it is encased in ice. Draw your path around the island and use your cannon to shoot down the ice. Each block of ice takes multiple hits, so you may have to go around a few times.

Once the ice is gone you can dock at the island. From here make your way to the furthest right house on the south side of the island (almost right by where you docked). Enter the Island Chief’s house and talk with the Chief. He will now ask you to find the undercover Yook that has infiltrated the Anouki tribe.

Walk to the northern part of the island where 6 houses reside. You need to enter every house and talk to the villager inside. After talking with all 6 villagers enter the top-middle house and accuse the villager of being the Yook.

After speaking with the Yook you will be blown outside and it will run away. Head back to the Island Chief and explain the situation. He will now grant you access to the Great Ice Field located on the eastern side of the island.

Make your way east to the cave entrance. Speak with the Anouki blocking your way to gain access to the cave. Walk through the small cave and exit through the other side. You should now be in the Great Ice Field!

Here in the Great Ice Field you will find 6 Yook. You will need to defeat all 6 in order to gain access to the temple entrance. To defeat the Yook wait until they are inhaling the throw a bomb at them. They will inhale the bomb and be stunned. Slash your sword at them a few times and they will be defeated.

Once you have defeated all 6 Yook the pathway to the temple will be opened. You will then face off against the Yook imposter from before. This one is a bit more aggressive, but the fight remains the same as the other Yooks. Defeat this final Yook and enter the Temple of Ice!

Temple of Ice

1st Floor

Upon entering the Temple of Ice slash the red switch to the east. This will cause a set of blocks to the north to go up and down. Place a bomb next to this crystal switch (now blue) and run to the north. If done properly you should now be on the other side of the red and blue blocks. Walk east and down the ice bridge. Avoid the spikes and head west. Step on the floor switch to gain access to the temple entrance.

Walk back to the ice bridge where you saw lowered blue blocks. Stand on to of the blocks and use a Bombchu to hit the red crystal switch located by the temple entrance. If you don’t have Bombchus you can use a normal bomb, but you’ll have to hustle! After hitting the switch walk north and you will notice the lowered red blocks. Walk past them and up the stairs to floor F2.

2nd Floor

Walk north and break any pots to regain health. Walk up the stairs to floor F3.

3rd Floor

Run to the southeast corner of the room and tap the wooden peg. You will balance on top of it. Take out your Bow and shoot the crystal switch to your north. Doing so will melt nearby ice to allow you to continue forward. Walk past the ice you just melted and across the ice bridge.

Defeat the new enemy, the Stag Beetle, by slashing at its back. You will now see four levers on the wall. The order to pulling these levers are located around this floor. After reading the clues the order is as follows:

  1. Pull the farthest left lever.
  2. Pull the farthest right lever.
  3. Pull the second lever from right.
  4. Pull the second lever from left.

Pulling the levers in the correct order will open a nearby door. Walk over to this door and walk up the ramp to a higher platform. Make your way around the platforms using the ice bridges. Defeat any Ice Keese or Ice Bubbles using your Bow. Once you’ve made it to the southwest portion of the floor you will notice a blue crystal switch. Throw a bomb over the edge to cause it to turn blue, causing the blue blocks around the floor to lower.

Optional Treasure Chest

Jump down to the west after lowering the blue blocks and walk up the ramp where a treasure chest is sitting. Open it to receive a Wisdom Gem!

Head back to the main platform that you unlocked after pulling the levers. You can now walk across the ice bridge to your west. Read the stone tablet and then stand on the blue tile. You will want to hit the crystal switches using your Boomerang in the following order:

  1. Northeast crystal switch.
  2. Northwest crystal switch.
  3. Southwest crystal switch.
  4. Southeast crystal switch.

Use your Boomerang again to snatch the small key that dropped from the ceiling. You can now make your way to the locked door at the northern part of the floor. Unlock the door and head down the stairs to floor F2.

2nd Floor

Upon entering this floor you will encounter two more Yooks. Defeat them as you’ve done before and then open the treasure chest to obtain the Grappling Hook!

Use this new item on the west side of the room to grab ahold of the wooden peg. This will pull you to the other side where you can now head down to floor F1.

1st Floor

Walk to your east and you will notice three statues. Use your Grappling Hook on the middle statue to pull its tongue. This will cause the ice blocking your path to melt.

Use the Grappling Hook to cross the gap and step on the floor switch to the east. This will allow you access to the temple entrance once again. While in the entrance use your Grappling Hook on the statues here. This will cause the ice blocking the stairs to the west to melt. Walk over to the stairs and head down to floor B1.

Basement 1

Take out your bombs and blow up the cracked wall just to your north. Walk through the hole and step on the floor switch, causing the treasure chest to appear. Use your Grappling Hook on the treasure chest to pull yourself across the gap. Step on the floor switch to cause a bridge to appear.

Just above the treasure chest place a bomb. This will again cause a portion of the wall to crumble. This will create a shortcut for later. Don’t forget to open the treasure chest too!

Continue east until you reach a dead end. Place a bomb on the blue tile on the floor, causing the wall to blow up. Walk through the hole and stop just before the wooden peg to your right. Use the Grappling Hook to create a tightrope between the wooden peg you’re standing by and the one across the gap to the east. This will allow you to walk to the other side.

Once across the gap use your Grappling Hook to pull a lever on the northern wall, just above the torch. From here continue east and then north until you reach a statue. Stand a good distance away from the statue and use your Grappling Hook to pull its tongue. The further away you are the more you will pull the tongue out (giving you more time). Pull the tongue and run south, and past the melted ice. Open the treasure chest to obtain a small key.

With the small key in hand, walk to the northeast corner of the floor and unlock the door. Open the treasure chest to obtain a Wisdom Gem! Now stand just outside the room and use your Boomerang to strike the red crystal switch, causing the blue blocks to raise.

From here head back to where you created the tightrope from before. Walk back over it to the west and create another tightrope on the left side. Stand in the middle of the tightrope and use your Boomerang to strike the crystal switches to your north from left to right (full clockwise motion). This will cause the ice to melt in front of the eye switch. Use your Bow to strike the eye switch, causing more ice to melt.

Walk west and get off the tightrope. Head down and to the southwest corner of the room where the ice just melted. You should see another statue. Stand as far from the statue as possible and pull its tongue with your Grappling Hook causing the door at the northern part of the floor to open. This is another timed puzzle, so be quick!

Run through the hole in the wall above the treasure chest from before and use your Grappling Hook on the wooden peg on the platform to your northwest. Continue doing this, making your way to the door that is about to close. Once you make it through the door head down the stairs to floor B2.

Basement 2

Walk to the northwest and cross the gap using your Grappling Hook. From here you need to walk into the room to your east. Here you will need to defeat another Yook, and a Gel. After doing so the ice to your north will melt and you can cross the gap by using your Grappling Hook to create more tightropes.

Once you’ve made your way to the northern part of this floor you will want to create another tightrope between the two wooden pegs. Instead of standing on the tightrope you will want to use it as a type of catapult. Run into the tightrope from the left. Once you do this change directions and jump over the gap to your west.

From here walk south and you will see a platform with four crystal switches. Perform a spin attack to hit all the switches at once. This will cause the door in the southern part of the floor to open.

Head back to the southern part of the floor and walk through the unlocked door. Walk east and create a tightrope between the two torches. Use this as a catapult again in order to propel yourself onto the platform to the north. Once you are on this platform use your Grappling Hook to grab onto the torch on the platform to the west. Do this once again to the platform to your north.

Before you jump down be sure to shoot the eye switch with your Bow on the wall to your north. Once you’ve done so a door will unlock. Jump down and ignore the door for now. Walk to the east and step on the floor switch. This will create a shortcut incase you need one later.

Walk through the unlocked door and you will see two eye switches. Jump onto the middle platform and stand on the blue tile just between the two eyes. From here create a tightrope. You will use your Bow to shoot at the tightrope, causing the arrows to bounce back and hit the eye switches. Hit both eyes and a treasure chest will appear.

Open the treasure chest and obtain another small key! Use this key on the locked door located near the center of this floor.

Unlock the door and walk though to the new room. The door will close behind you and you will need to defeat another Yook and two Ice Keese. After defeating them a treasure chest will appear containing 200 rupees, as well as unlocking the door to your south.

Make your way through the newly unlocked door and use the Grappling Hook to travel across the gap and to the other side. From here tap on the wooden peg to stand on top of it. Use the Grappling Hook again and grab onto the nearest wooden peg. Continue this until you reach the top where a floor switch resides. Step on the floor switch to cause the nearby ice to melt.

Walk over to where the ice had just melted and continue carefully over the narrow ice bridge. Once you make it to the end you will see yet another floor switch. Step on it to cause the last area of ice to melt, giving you access to a treasure chest!

Make your way over to the treasure chest and open it to obtain the Boss Key! Carry the Boss Key up to floor B1 and unlock the door to face off against the boss of this temple! As usual, read the stone tablet to the right of the stairs after unlocking the door with the Boss Key. This will create a warp portal if you ever need it.

You are now going up against the classic Zelda boss, Gleeok! During this battle, you will use the wooden pegs to create tightropes to bounce energy orbs back onto each of the boss’ heads.

The fire head will spit fireballs, and the ice head will shoot iceballs. You will need to direct each ball back to the opposite head. Connect the northwest peg and the southeast peg using the Grappling Hook to hit the ice head. Connect the northeast peg and southwest peg using the Grappling Hook to hit the fire head.

During this time the boss will occasionally move close to you and attempt to bite you. As long as you keep moving away from them, you shouldn’t get hit. After hitting both heads the two will hide underwater to create a large wave. During this time hop onto one of the wooden pegs and wait for the wave to pass. Once it passes you’re free to jump down. Be sure to avoid the falling ice.

Once both heads have lost their protective face shields they will begin to act differently. During this time one of the heads will breath in as it begins to ready an attack. During this use your Grappling Hook to connect one of the wooden pegs to the tongue of the dragon. Slash away at this head and continue this process until both heads are defeated!

Once you’ve defeated Gleeok you will receive two more minutes of time in your hourglass. Open the treasure chest to obtain another Heart Container and continue north to obtain the second pure metal, Azurine. Step through the portal and warp back to the temple entrance!
