Obtaining your Sword
Upon washing ashore and meeting Ciela you will need to make your way north across the bridge and up the set of stairs. Enter the house and talk with Oshus.
Oshus will instruct you to head towards the port on Mercay Island. After leaving his house, head towards the bridge to the east. You will be stopped by an earthquake and will now need to head back to Oshus’ house.
Talk to Oshus again and he will advise you not to go to the north. Ignore his advice and exit the house and head northwest. Once you see the opening in the cliff, head north. Ciela will stop you and tell you to turn back. Head back down the path you came and back to Oshus’ house one final time.
After talking again with Oshus you will want to head to the cave just east of his house. Exit his house, go east and pick up the barrels in your way to enter the cave. Once you enter, approach the sign next to the locked door. You will be asked to write the number of palm trees located on the beach where you washed ashore. Draw a 7 and the door will open.
Enter the now unlocked door and receive your sword!
Mercay Port
Before heading to the port you will need to take part in sword training. After completing your basic training exit Oshus’ house and head northwest towards the opening in the cliff.
Optional Secret
Before heading to the north, run to the house just west of the northward path. If you clear the rocks in the man’s front yard you will be rewarded with a green rupee as well as a hint to a secret on the opposite side of the island. Mark this location on your map to visit later.
Heading north on the trail you will encounter some Red Chuchus. Defeat them and continue down the path until you reach the set of trees blocking the way. Swing your sword at the trees to chop them down. From here you can enter the mountain passage.
After entering the mountain passage follow the path east, removing the rocks that block your path. Continue east past the locked door to find the treasure chest being guarded by more Red Chuchus.
Defeat the Chuchus and open the chest which contains the key to the door you saw before. Head west and open the locked door with your newly obtained key.
Once you’ve entered the new room defeat the Red Chuchus and head to the room on the west side. Move the block that is in your path and continue into the room. Defeat the Keese and read the stone tablet near the top of the room. The tablets will give you the solution to the switch puzzle in the room you just came from.
Exit this room and head to the other room on the east side. Again, move the block in your way, defeat the Keese, and read the stone tablet. You can also open the treasure chest in this room for 20 rupees (this will come in handy later).
After reading all the tablets you can now complete the switch puzzle in the main room. From left to right you will want to pull the switches in this order: 2 1 4 3
If done correctly a key will fall from the ceiling. Pick it up and open the locked door to the north where you will enter the last part of the mountain passage.
Entering the new room you will find it crawling with Rats. Defeat them and head to the far west side of this room. You will now want to move the block on the left wall to cover the hole in the wall to the north. After you’ve covered the hole with the block go east and wait at the locked door until you see the key on your mini-map move over to the far west room. Immediately head back to the west and defeat the Rat that is holding the key.
Using this key you will need to unlock the door at the east side of the room (where you were waiting before). Head through the door and follow the path, defeating any Keese that stand in your way. Exit through the door to the south. You’ve made it to the port on Mercay Island!
Finding Linebeck
Now that you’ve made it to the port follow the path south and turn east to find a man standing at the dock. With Linebeck nowhere to be seen, you will want to head back to the northwest and enter the large building on the west side of the village (the Mercay Tavern). Talk with the bartender and he will inform you to head to the Temple of the Ocean King.
Head now to the northeast part of town and go through the northern opening to make your way to the Temple of the Ocean King.
As you follow the path to the northwest defeat any Red Chuchus and Crows that may cross your path.
Optional Secret
Using the hint you received from the man whose yard you cleared, you will want to roll into the tree you marked on your map earlier. Upon doing so a large green rupee will fall out – 100 rupees in the bank!
Continue west and you will arrive at the Temple of the Ocean King where Linebeck awaits.
Temple of the Ocean King – I
Once you’ve entered the temple continue straight through the next doorway. In this room, you will be introduced to Lineback and tasked with setting him free.
Leaving your safe zone, go to the northwest corner of the room. Here you will need to hit a switch that will lower the spikes trapping Linebeck. After you’ve set him free head back towards the entrance of the room and speak with Linebeck. He will give you a small key in order to move forward in the temple.
With the key, you can now head back to the northwest corner of the room and unlock the door which was located next to the switch you hit earlier. After you unlock the door follow the left-most wall to the nearest safe-spot at the northwestern part of the room. Here you should hit the switch and quickly run to the northeast side of the room where you will find yet another switch for you to hit. Hitting this will cause the door in the middle of the room to open.
Head over to the door that you just opened and open the chest at the top of the stairs. You will obtain a Sea Chart! From here head back to the entrance of the room and make your way back outside the temple.
After you’ve spoken to Linebeck head back to the port to find him waiting at his ship.
Shield
For 80 rupees you can purchase a shield from the Mercay Island Shop. This is the southern-most building in the village. There are other items for you to purchase here too if you have enough rupees.
You will be asked to mark your map. Do this by tracing over the southeastern island on the map to reveal your next destination; the Isle of Ember. You should head straight to this island using your map, as there is not much else to do yet at other nearby islands.
