7.1 Dig up the Star-shaped Ore

Sometimes you’ll get lucky and find this quickly. Other times, not so much…

Once you arrive in Subrosia, you’ll emerge right next to an erupting volcano. Quickly move off the screen or prepare to dodge falling fire from the sky. Head west, and then south to hit the beach just off the underground sea. If you talk to the Subrosians on the beach, they’ll all be wringing their wrists about how badly they want to go on a date with Rosa. However, none of them has exactly the gift to give her to win her heart. Thankfully, you can one-up all of them.

Somewhere within the six screens that comprise the beach — this one and the ones, west, southwest, south, southeast, and east of here — is the extremely rare Star-shaped Ore. There’s only one, and you’ll have to find it using your trusty Shovel. Unless you’re extremely lucky and find it super early, you should use this period of time to dig up some of what the Subrosians use for money: Ore Chunks. You’ll find Ore Chunks aplenty as you dig: Each blue chunk is worth one whereas the red ones are worth five. It’s worth amassing a small quantity as you’ll eventually need these for purchases throughout the game.

7.2 Ask Rosa for a date

Once you find the Star-shaped Ore upon the beach, you’ll want to head back to the entrance to the beach. Your next objective is to head to the Subrosian Market to buy a gift for Rosa. Head up the steps to the grasslands and walk north two screens, followed by one screen west. It’s hard to miss the incredibly sized market just sitting at the end of a pier over the lava. Head up and go inside.

There are actually a good number of worthwhile things to buy here. However, the thing that you’re really here for is the Ribbon, which will end up being your gift to Rosa. The cost? All it will take is the Star-shaped Ore that you just pulled out of the ground. Make the exchange, and then head outside.

Now it’s time to become the envy of every Subrosian male out there. Head back east one screen and then south twice to get back to the beach. If you haven’t found Rosa yet, she’ll be by the edge of the ocean to the southeast, so head east and then south. Talk to the yellow Subrosian and offer her the Ribbon you just bought. She’ll be so thrilled that she’ll offer to go on a date with you. Just what you wanted! The chance to hang around with a lovely girl… that just happens to have a key that can open any door.

Uhm… okay… sure? Yes, that’s exactly what I was intending all along…

7.3 Return to the Temple of Seasons

On this date, Rosa specifically wants to head to the Temple of Seasons to explore, and there’s no reason you shouldn’t indulge her curiosity. The temple is a small walk, but it’s not that tricky to get to.

Head north and west to get to the stairs back up to the grassland. Then head north twice more, followed by a west to reach the Subrosian Market, and then north to reach the first of many locked doors you need Rosa to open. Just walk up to the door as if you had a key to it, and Rosa will unlock it for you.

The little cavern inside is pretty small in harmless. Just walk around the lava pit inside to the other locked door, and Rosa will unlock it for you, guiding you back to the area of Subrosia that you were in the last time you were here. Once you’re outside, the Temple of Seasons is due east, so head up and around the obstacles and head east for four screens.

7.4 Gain the power of summer

Now that you’re here, it’s time to guide Rosa to the final locked door in Subrosia. Head north twice, then west, and then north again to reach the Tower of Summer. Have Rosa unlock the door for you, and then head inside.

The first room inside might look like something of a maze, but it really isn’t a good maze if it is as there are multiple pathways to the staircase heading up. Really, the only obstacle is just lifting all of the pesky rocks and smashing them into rubble. The staircase is on the north side of the room in the middle, so make your way there. The upper floor is just a simple walk back south to the next staircase, and then you’ll find the spirit statue on the floor above that. Head up in order to be blessed with the power of summer.

7.5 Return to Holodrum

With that, you’ve done practically everything that you’re capable of doing in Subrosia, so it’s time to go back topside. The walk back is a bit long, but as there are no real enemies to speak of, it’s not a stressful walk.

Head back down the two staircases you ascended, and then make your way out of the “maze” to the front of the Tower of Summer. From there, head south, west, south twice, and then west four times in order to make your way back to the cave that was formerly locked. Head inside the unlocked cave, and then come out the other exit. To reach the Subrosian portal, simply head south twice and then east twice to get back to the erupting volcano. Once you enter into the portal, your date with Rosa will be over, but your date with destiny is only just begun.

7.6 Enter the Poison Moth’s Lair

How you get back is dependent upon which animal guide you’ve got.

Head south from the Subrosian portal. Depending upon which animal’s flute you have, your pathway back to the dungeon will differ, but more or less you’ll be backtracking exactly the way you reached the portal. If you have Ricky’s Flute, head up the northwest passageway, over the pits, and then down the cliff, heading east. If you have Moosh’s Flute, head east twice, U-turn back west, and then head north over the two series of potholes. If you have Dimitri’s Flute, head east twice, then proceed north as he swims over the deep water.

Eventually, as you head northerly, you’ll pass back through the narrow valley where the floodgates had held the water back. Once you’ve passed through the valley, turn to the left and go west. You’ll find a tree stump there to stand upon. Hop upon it, and use it to call down summer to the swamp.

All you need to enter the third dungeon is to walk north one screen and climb the vines — the sure sign of summer — into the cavern in the middle of the wall.
