  • I hearby nominate you to start Operation Zelda II.

It worked with Operation Moonfall so maybe it will work with Zelda II haha

  • Bloodstained is out now?

Asking because I saw where you voted for it.

Posted by Amber The Gay Fox

    • Ritual of the Night is not out yet, but Curse of the Moon is, and I believe that's the game that was on the bracket. It was a Kickstarter bonus for RotN, and it's pretty sweet little gem. You should check it out if you've been waiting for RotN!

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • I'm gonna check the ps4 online store right now then. Cause I've been waiting for this to come out.
      Thanks for the heads up!

Posted by Amber The Gay Fox

  • Hey friend! How are you holding up with everything? Are you getting any sleep?

    Posted by Winnie

    • That's a no on the sleep, haha. Doing good, though! Just plugging along through school still and having fun being a dad! How've you been? How was your holidays?

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • Ahh so excited for you! Kudos to you for being a new dad AND a student!

      Posted by Winnie

    • Hey, saw your post, hopefully you are feeling better today!

      Posted by Winnie

    • I am feeling better today! I slept for like 16 hours straight, haha, and woke up feeling quite refreshed. I probably just pushed myself too hard with everything.

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • good luck with everything!! i'm not sure if i'll be around for the next week or so if i miss your last few days i just wanna say i hope everything goes well!

    Posted by goronmario

    • Thanks man! Crush your finals and enjoy a long, well-deserved break. Next time I see you guys I'll hopefully have lots of embarrassing baby photos to share, haha

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • Hey! It’s been great having you on ZU and getting to know you! Wishing you and yours the best and look forward to hopefully seeing you back soon!

    Posted by Winnie

    • Thanks Winnie! Not leaving quite yet, I'll be around until the semester ends. I should be back pretty soon, a couple months at most. Things are just gonna be upended for a while as we bring our kiddos home.

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • Just a few more weeks my friend.

Do you have the glorious month and a week long break between semesters too?

    Posted by goronmario

    • Yes and I lust for it. Although that's when my wife is due, so it will be stress of a different sort, haha. But my last day of class is December 3 and it cannot get here soon enough... I finally got next semester all figured out too and I'm only taking a half semester. I won't have any classes at all Monday, Wednesday, or Friday. Kinda taking it a bit easy while we get used to having kids. So all I got to do is make it through the next few weeks and it'll all be over. For a while at least.

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • Hey! Thanks for posting about Moonlighter, I always skim the “what game are you playing” thread for new ideas, so I googled it and it looked pretty good! Just sunk a couple hours into it. I always like supporting indie developers too!

    Posted by Winnie

    • It's pretty great, isn't it? Not anything deep or meaningful, but it's got a great gameplay loop. Love the combat, love the music, love setting up my store and selling off all my crap. Love that I can just drop in and play for a bit without getting entangled in anything complicated. It's perfect for a quick, unwind session. I'll be keeping an eye on that developer for sure!

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • Yes it’s so true! I’m recommending it to some of my friends, especially those with kids who may only have a limited amount of time to play a day. It’s a great mix between animal crossing and Zelda.

  • Dude I loved your poem

    Posted by Lady Sunshine

    • Thanks! I actually wrote it a few years ago, but it's literally about the guilt of not living up to the expectations you have for yourself, so when I saw the theme for this month I figured I'd toss it into the ring. I'm trying to write more often, so I'm gonna try to get involved in the Creators Corner as motivation.

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • Definitely do! We should talk poems sometime. I love writing them I just don’t really share my work ever >_>

      Posted by Lady Sunshine

    • It's definitely scary to share poems! I love writing in general, and I like showing off what I've done, except for poems. It's hard to take the plunge with them for some reason. I think maybe because they're so personal comparatively to other genres. I dunno though.

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • Ah, so that explains the Biblical allusions. Would still like some clarification on the interpretation of the poem, for my soul delights in plainness.

      Posted by logicalpencils

    • The whole thing is actually a biblical allusion, right down to the title. It's based on Matthew 5:29-30, the "if thy right hand/eye offend thee, cut it off/pluck it out" analogy. The poem is structured to contrast two kinds of guilt - doing things that you wish you hadn't and not doing things you think you should have. There are sort of three broad levels of symbolism in the poem, the hand vs the eye, yellow vs grey, and the structure of the poem itself. The hand represents actions or choices while the eye represents desires/motivation. The color yellow represents embarrassment and shame, grey represents virtue and accomplishment. And the poem alternates between metered, rhyming stanzas associated with moments of decision and free verse non-rhyming stanzas associated with moments of contemplation. The back and forth between the two types of stanzas is intentionally supposed to be unpleasant and frustrating, representing the clash between the person you want to be and the person you are. The poem is also a very loose chiasmus, vaguely suggesting that the person in the poem ends up where he began, making no progress in the end.

That's kind of a shotgun explanation of it, haha. Any specific questions about it? I appreciated your feedback, and I do agree that its probably too dense. There's a little too much going on in a very short amount of space. I don't believe in changing past work, but if I wrote it again I'd probably expand it a bit and maybe make some more explicit references to scripture. Without an understanding of the poem's relationship to the biblical verses, quite a bit of its meaning is obstructed.

  • Congrats and enjoy your free weekend friend :)

  • Well I devoured Storm Front in... 4 days, so that's fun. Reading it made me wonder how they could get the TV show so wrong, because it was one of the most cinematic books I've ever read. Granted I haven't seen the series, but I have heard that it misses the mark, and I'm just not sure how it could manage that.

    Posted by zoraluigi

    • The series really does feel like it was made for TV. The original SyFy show failed by basically throwing out every core aspect of the series and rebuilding a very loose imitation of it. Dunno why TV shows and movies feel like they have to do that so often. I get that some changes need to be made to translate the story to a visual medium, but why, like rewrite the whole freaking plot and drop/add random unnecessary characters? I dunno, man. I dunno.

Glad you liked it, though! Hope you keep it up, the series really gets better as it introduces more characters and gains traction.

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • Harry Dresden?

    Posted by zoraluigi

    • Yes!!! It's one of my favorite series. You a fan?

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • I read the first... four books, I think?--years ago. I'm actually probably just gonna pick up the series soon because I really liked it and then just... didn't read Death Masks for some reason? I guess cause I was reading them in a row and it just got kinda stale.

      Posted by zoraluigi

    • Well not stale, per se, but like, I think I just wanted a break from the series and then just never came back, to my chagrin.

      Posted by zoraluigi

    • I definitely get that. They're not exactly high literature or anything. They're pretty much just novelized comic books. And now there's even graphic novels, so they basically are just comic books, haha. That said, if you only read the first four you really missed out on all the good stuff. The peak of the series I'd say is books 7-12; the newest books are great but a bit of a change of pace. I'd highly recommended them if you just want a good, fun series with some really great urban fantasy worldbuilding. Probably one of my favorite things about them is that they're not laborious to read, it's not like Wheel of Time or anything. Plus Harry is my favorite wisecracking badass this side of Spiderman.

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • In the time between me posting and you replying, I bought the first six books on Kindle (they were a "box set"). So you convinced me so hard that I did it before you even told me to.

Re: Wheel of Time--oh God that is so hard to get through. There's a great story under all of it, but I just can't handle the style for very long at a time. And I've heard that the middle books are basically exercises in futility with how slow they are. But it's another series I want to read someday. So many books. And games. And movies. And shows. And not nearly enough time or attention span to devote to them all.

      Posted by zoraluigi

  • Seconding that, lol.

    Posted by FroyoClaus

  • I applaud your patience.

    Posted by Vynrah

  • OMG OMG OMG!!!!!! GODS AND GLORY!!!!

    Posted by Winnie

    • I know!!!! I haven't played it in a few weeks, but I'm busting that bad boy out tonight. Perfect timing too, this is my first full day off in like two weeks, haha.

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • I have family visiting this weekend but Sunday afternoon I’m downloading it IMMEDIATELY.

      Posted by Winnie

  • Are you in here quoting the "literal" lyrics of Total Eclipse of the Heart at Sol? :P I actually came over because I recognized your avvy lol.

  • Your avatar

    Posted by goronmario

  • I'm surprised by how few followers you have. You're a cool guy and deserve more.

    Posted by TruEdge67

    • Aw, thanks! I lurk a lot, haha, I'm not very well-known on ZU. I've been thinking about getting into the role-playing here. Used to play DnD a bit as a teen, like to get back into it but all my rpg buddies live far away now... *sigh*

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • May I ask where your name comes from?

    Posted by BackSet-Chan

    • I needed a username several years ago, and I hate having to use numbers in usernames, so I needed a username that was unique enough that nobody else had it. My screen saver at the time was the GDT, so I flipped open a dictionary and picked the first longish adjective that I thought probably wouldn't get used as a video game avatar name and stuck it together with the word "Tree." I liked the image of a "gregarious tree," and so far I have not found a single platform, website, or video game that doesn't allow me to use it without any special characters. I use it a lot, it's my go-to internet handle.

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • So you're a social tree.

      Posted by BackSet-Chan

  • Omg I didn’t know there were multiple endings! Don’t tell me what they are haha I’m loving the element of surprise in this game, so I’m trying to stay in the dark as much as possible. The only thing I look up is best tactics for defeating bosses haha! But it’s SUCH an amazing game! After I finally beat it the first time I’m going to PM you to discuss it all!

    Posted by Winnie

    • Also it’s awesome you’ve been all over the US! That IS exciting! So far are there any places you’d rather live than Utah? Also travel may be more affordable than you think! Check out Groupon deals for India and Egypt, sometimes they have them for $599 for Egypt, about $999 for India, flights hotel and tour included. And breakfast too of course. Still a lot for a student but there’s hope!

      Posted by Winnie

    • Oh yeah! Honestly, I feel kinda bad that I only paid $15 for the game. Team Cherry massively underpriced their game. It's Metroidvania perfection, and the amount of content in that game, plus all of the DLCs which are totally free? Hollow Knight is a freaking masterpiece. I can't wait to hear your full take on it.

Yeah, there's lots of places I'd rather live than Utah, haha. I think Washington is where I'd like to end up, I was born near Seattle and have always loved that area. We try to visit it as often as we can. As far as travel goes, it's actually not necessarily the money, haha. There are other reasons it's not feasible right now...

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • Okay let’s touch base soon!

      Posted by Winnie

  • you have a PS4?

    Posted by goronmario

    • No but I want one. Probably gonna get one soonish, they're attractively cheap right now.

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • Finally, my hard work (read, constant plugging) has shown some results! And to someone here who apparently also knows what Zelda Classic is! Oh, you are going to love this. And not only will it give one an appreciation for Zelda II, but also, even the crappy cartoon and mediocre comic- because the story is an adaptation and expansion of said comic and contains references to the cartoon here and there.

    purezc.net/index.php?page=quests&id=618

Here's the quest page for ya. I know MeleeWizard did a playthrough of it, which is what I used to help myself get through the game.

  • Ahh so glad to meet another platformer junkie! Shovel Knight got me hooked again, and then I played Ori and have been craving another great metroidvania since. Also hopefully Spyro comes out for Switch because I love 3D platformers too, but it seems like nobody has done them right since the original trilogy haha!

    Posted by Winnie

    • Shovel Knight was bae. I still haven't beaten Plague of Shadows or Specter of Torment yet, though. I feel like indie developers rescued the platformer genre from irrelevance and I love it so much. You are gonna love Hollow Knight if you've been craving a good Metroidvania.

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • Sup how's it going?

    Posted by goronmario

    • So good. It's raining and it smells amazing right now. Except now I have to go to work, so that blows.

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • Enjoying your clan life?

    Posted by Cody

    • Still warming up to things but yeah, I'm having fun. Thanks for that Mafia invite btw, that was a blast

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • wanna join the dincord?

    Posted by goronmario

  • gregggyyy, hey, if RealmWings doesn't check in I might need a backup to step in. You think you'll be up to it?

    Posted by gerudoyoshi

  • Welcome to Din!!

    Posted by Winnie

  • Who is that in your avatar, btw?

    Posted by Serenity

    • The late, great Thomas Bayes.

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • I just woke up and am still a little tired, but it's cool that you seem like you're into math. Too many have this negative view on math, when all it is really is just rules and guidelines. And when you're an adult, you can just use calculators, even in classes, usually.

      Posted by Serenity

    • Yeah, I had a really cool English teacher years ago that showed me how important math is to language and got me interested in logic. I like reading about it.

      Posted by GregariousTree

  • Glad you're playing with us in mafia - it's nice to have you here on ZU!

    Posted by Lady Sunshine

  • Hope you enjoy whatever clan you join! Joining a clan was a good idea. I made a ton of friends in Nayru and have had a ton of fun there. The other clans are pretty cool too and I'm sure you'd enjoy their company as well. Also keep in mind that you don't have to join the clan the clan test gives you if feel like you'd rather be in a different clan. In fact Nayru's moderator Chel took the clan test and it said she would best fit in Din, but she decided she'd rather be in Nayru.

    Posted by TruEdge67

    • Yeah, I'm taking the clan test mostly out of curiosity, and because I really like personality tests. I'll take it into account, but I think the feedback I got from everybody was just as helpful if not more so.

      Posted by GregariousTree

    • Glad to know we could help!
