I was wondering what happened to you! How is life? All is well, I hope. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Guinea! Just been busy with life, that's all. I still pop online at least once a day. Hope everything's going well for you!
Hey there Vio, how’s life going?
Hi Fal Cie. Been pretty busy, but that's December for you. How are you doing?
Pretty good, I think I've gotten into the swing of things in Vancouver thankfully. Plenty of that frantic festive energy I take it? Have you played anything new lately?
Just been back in Azeroth. I started playing WoW again after nearly 3 years. Legion is actually fun. And yeah, holidays are actually fun again when you have a kid. Arden's still too young to really know what's going on, but still. Glad you're liking Vancouver. Have you been playing anything good lately?
Aw I’m sure he’s being very cute! I didn’t bring any of my own consoles, but my friend here was kind enough to lend me a ds and Xenoblade. I’ll probably get my own for the M&L remake. Haven’t played WoW before, maybe I should look into it. Would you be into Dark Souls? A game in that style called Nioh might have a plot that you could appreciate!
Ooohhhh we need to collab on a story. It would be awesome, I have no doubt.
Hi Guinea. I don't know if I have time for a collab, sorry, but I'd be happy to beta-read for you anytime! Thanks anyway for the offer
Hey Violet! Since you recommended Aggretsuko and it was so good, do you have any other recommendations for shows/anime? You have great taste!
Hey Winnie! Thanks for thinking so!
To be honest, I haven't been watching a whole lot lately. My son just started daycare, and I've been working more. The latest I watched was the first season of Pokemon Sun and Moon on Netflix, lol. It was pretty good though, if you like Pokemon.
I'm a huge fan of Nature shows though. I've watched Netflix's entire collection of David Attenbourough documentaries. He's from the same town in England as my grandfather. Planet Earth II in particular is amazing! I can't wait until Netflix has Blue Planet II out!
I love nature shows! I’ll have to watch Planet Earth II!
Netflix also has Planet Earth I, Blue Planet, Frozen Planet, Africa, the Hunt and a few others. Now if only David Attenbourough and David Suzuki did a show together. It'd be like a naturalist Avengers!
I wish I could come up with better stuff, I still haven't finished my contest entry...
I've been feeling kinda bummed out lately and it wears down on the writing skills...
I haven't even started my entry for this month, so don't worry too much about it.
Maybe just take a little break from writing for a while? Or if you really want to get back to it but aren't feeling it at the moment, go for a walk (weather permitting), take a nice shower or bath, or do some brainless chores and just let your mind wander. That's what helps me.
Surprise! I'm visiting as many profiles as possible just to freak people out!
How goes it?
Just wanted to say thanks again for your story, it's a real treat! I wanted to run something by you. Since you're including some DLC items in the story, would you consider adding certain pieces of concept art too? Things like Link having a little sister or the nightmarish guardian designs I mean.
Thanks again for reading! Actually, I had an idea to include one of the concept art ideas later on in the story, so yeah. Basically, if it fits, then sure. I just try to not shoehorn stuff in *just* to have it in there. There's got to be an in-story reason for it. So kind of the opposite approach to the BotW devs, lol.
You are a wise woman! Also enjoyed the takes on Mario RPG plots, I was kind of hoping for the girls to ask if Zelda would ever work with Ganon, like Peach and Bowser!
Btw, you’re Canadian right? I’m moving out of Northern Ireland to Vancouver this August so any tips from a native would help!
I wish I could help you, but Vancouver's on the opposite side of the country from me, so I really know nothing about the area. However, our culture's not too much different from that of the UK. My own family emigrated to Canada from England when my Mom was 11. It would help if you like hockey, however
Ha, I can’t say I’ve given it much though but I’d be happy to give it a shot!
Hey! I am doing alright now. Was a long week but the worst seems to be over now.
Glad you're doing better. Don't worry, you didn't miss much here.
That's good to hear!
Just finished all of Aggretsuko thanks to your recommendation! It’s amazing thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Hey, any idea when you'll write more of your fanfic? I like it.
Thanks for reading Guinea. I've finished the first scene of the third chapter. It's a bit slow going though, since my two year old is going through a phase of thinking it's funny to turn off Mommy's computer lately. I can only really write when he's asleep. Anyway, I'm working on it!
Kids can be a handful that's for sure.
I've written a lot recently. I'm gonna post soon, but everything I write always feels like a rough draft. I'm torn between serious stuff and off the wall comedy, but I'm finding a happy medium.
Good luck with your story, you're really good.
heya, I've been looking around but couldn't find anything concrete on how much mature content's allowed in the writing section. I'll probably start posting a zelda fic here pretty soon but both the language and violence would be pretty strong, at least compared to the other current fanfics I've seen in the section.
I'd put general warnings in the OP anyway, but I figured I'd bring it up since this is technically a community that allows really young members to sign up. And no there won't be anything I'd consider gore, and there won't be any sexual content at all XD But I'm not sure if there's a certain threshold of mature content I should stick to, since all the stories I've read in the board look fairly light on that front
Basically, follow the rules of the forum for mature content, even in the writing section. Keep it teen-friendly. No "on screen" sex, no violence more graphic than what's in the Zelda games (so no rated M horror-game level gore). Pretty simple. As for language, just stay away from anything that would get a beep on TV, and you should be good. I'd suggest using "Hyrulean" euphemisms for added creativity.
how are you?
Ok. Been busy lately with RL stuff. I still pop into the boards daily, but haven't been participating too much. How are you?
I've been pretty busy RL too. I haven't had much time to go anywhere except Din lately x.x
Hey Violetlight! Thanks for your great take on the Dragonriders of Pern series! I read the first book and tbh thought it was so-so, but that the concept and series overall had a lot going for it. Do the books get better after the first one? Maybe I’ll give the second one a try.
There's a lot of places to start in the Dragonriders series. If you prefer the more sci fi elements, I'd recommend "Dragonsdawn", which tells the story of the very first colonists to Pern and how they developed the dragons in the first place, along with the accompanying short story anthology "The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall" that takes place in the same era of Pern's history.
For a good overall view of the series from "behind the scenes", there's a companion book, "The Dragonlovers Guide to Pern", which tells you all about Pern's history and gives detailed descriptions of most major cities (Holds) and military bases (Weyrs).
I'd avoid the Harper-focused books, unless you like reading about Bards that sometimes encounter dragons. The actual dragon-centric books are better, IMO. Todd's books tend to be more dragon-focused, so his may be a good place to start as well. Start here with "Dragon's Kin".
Here's a list of the chronological order of the Pern books:
The first book in the series which I assume you read, "Dragonflight", is actually one of the later in Pern's history, taking place in the 9th Pass. A lot of its themes are a bit dated, but it was quite progressive for its day, being released in 1967 and all.
I've actually been enjoying most of the Pern fan fiction on ff.net. Fans often deal with themes and ideas that took a while to get into the canon books, as I described in my post, like female Blue Riders. I'd recommend any that aren't obvious Mary Sue stories. It's so cool that Todd has listened to fans the way he has. That's like if the Zelda developers actually bothered to read this forum, and implemented some of the more common complaints about BotW, for example (like a lackluster story and no proper dungeons) into future titles, and then said they did so because of fan feedback!
Maybe I’ll give Pern another look and start with the first book you suggested!
Hope you like it!
I like your theories. So glad I'm not the only one against the dream world Termina bullcrap.
Okay, I'm not sure if this is what the wall is for, but I just had to say something!
I just had a phone interview for a place in downtown Toronto for a professional proofreader position! I've been working minimum wage crap jobs since graduating in 2013, so this is just the break I've been hoping for! I really, really, really really want this job! Fingers crossed!
Normally, the wall is for visitors to write messages to you :3 I'd say your own messages could go in the general chit chat thread though, so others see them more easily.
And also nice! Best of luck.
Doesn't matter. I won't be getting the job. They sent me a form email the next day saying so.
Thanks for the advice though.
Urgh @_@ guess I should check the dates of where I post on, haha.
Sorry to hear :< Hope new, better opportunities come up soon though, hang in there
Thanks. I hope so too, but I've been dealing with this crap since I graduated, in 2013. It's getting harder and harder to stay optimistic.
Hi, fellow Canadian! Took me two times to get your reply. How was Thanksgiving there?
Oh hey. It was just another Thursday for me, lol. How about you?
It's Sunday for me though. Strange.
It's sunday now, lol.
Her name is Violetlight and she is cool, nice, and very bright. Her favorite soda's Sprite and she's the best at breaking up a fight. I wish with all my might that every day she's always feeling right, and if she has some haters they can take a hike and fly a kite.
Lol, that's cute. Thanks Guinea
I wish Canada!
Heyyyy fellow Canadian!
Hey! Where "aboots" are you from?
I'm from Toronto eh? And you?
Hamilton! We're practically neighbours, eh?!
Yeah! I haven't been to Hamilton before, but I'll be riding a bus through there on my Trip to Detroit to meet an online friend!
My sister lives in Toronto, so I visit semi-regularly. I'm such a tourist though, lol. Still think the CN Tower is amazing every time I see it, and I *love* taking the subway anywhere!
How have you been? It has been a while, and I have just now realized that you have made Mod. Congratulation, Violet. How do you thus far like being a Mod?
What else have you been up to?
Hey Tead. Modship is pretty cool so far. The only downside is now I have to pay attention to the BoTW Timeline placement mess ... I mean thread! lol. Besides that, just more of the same. How have you been doing?
Congrats on the new modship!
It's about time someone liked that post! I laughed so much when I wrote it.
It has been a while. How have you been?
Hi Tead, I'm doing ok, all things considering. Down to one job again *sighs*.
How's your travelling? Been to the ocean yet? I've seen it twice myself. Once when I was a kid and visited England. I walked along the shore of the North Sea. The second time was more exciting. I went to Florida and actually got to swim!
Hope you're well!
I am curious; what is it that you do for work? Will you be keeping just your current job, or will you try to work two again?
I do hope to visit the ocean again within a year. I have not been now for a few years at least, and I would like to be able to camp at the ocean; there are some that will allow people to park an RV, or to have tent camping.
I have been to Florida; during my travels, Florida is one of my favorite places that I have thus far visited. I was there for seven months. I was in Central Florida; which is very nice, I loved it a lot. On the one hand it was never really too hot, and the other, never too cold. I spent nearly the entire seven months in a tent at various nearby campsites. I had a wonderful time.
I would love to visit Europe; there are so many wonderful countries there, a person could easily spend an entire life in Europe and never run out of places to visit, and things to do.
Where would you like to most visit?
Hi again Tead,
I work as a "shelfreader" at my city's Central Library. Basically, I work in the basement for the most part, where all the returned materials are coming in, and organize them, making sure all the books, dvds, etc. Go where they need to go. I also work for the Bookmobile, getting holds ready for 32 different stops. It's not as exciting as it sounds. I only get minimum wage for my work, even though I have a degree and am capable of so much more. That, and other libraries in the region pay a lot more for the same work. It kind of sucks, to be honest.
Anyway, if I could go anywhere in the world, I'd love to visit Japan during cherry blossom blooming season. I'd love to go to England again too, and visit the British Museum. I'd also love to visit the pyramids of Egypt, if that part of the world ever becomes safe again. Basically, I love visiting cultural and natural sites. More realistically, I'd love to go on an Ottawa museum crawl one day (it's in-province, so it's not as impossible as some of the other places).
What's the most amazing place you've been to?
Talk to you later,
You're probs one of the more refreshing newbies around :3 Keep being cool.
I thought that I would finally come over this way to see how you are doing. How are you? I do hope that you are well. I myself am tired, and I have not thus far been able to get caught up on things as I desire to. I will keep at it though.
I have not seen you as often as usual. Have you been busy? I have been not feeling 100% lately, it is very hot here in NM.
I wonder where I will be able to travel to next. I want to spend some time near the ocean.
Listen, I hope to see you around the board,
Hi Tead. Yeah, I've been working two jobs, looking after a toddler and attempting to find time to write, so I've been busy! Thanks for thinking of me though ☺
Hey! I just wanted to tell you that I liked your fanfic!
Really? Thank you so much! I really should get a crack on the next chapter. Between work and the baby, it will eventually get done, lol. It's encouraging to know people are reading it though.
hello join din
Hi, lol. Haven't decided if I'm going to bother with that forum game yet
Hi! And it's not a forum game~ it's kind of like a club where you get to make friends and hang out in a secret forum that normal people can't see haha
(Don't join Din, join Nayru :P)
Well, just join them all like Solsetur.
Lol I thought your summary of "Zelda's redemption" was the beginning of the story of Malo's takeover.
That might make an interesting fan fic later on!
Gotta love missing the line separating the sigs and posts lol
I changed the font colour of my sig, so that doesn't happen again. Still, that was funny!
Haha, your story of meeting your husband gives warm, fuzzy feelings x3
Awww, thanks. It still gives me the warm fuzzies 17 years later
