  • What’s your take on what’s happening with Liam Neeson right now? I’m not too sure what to think of it yet, so I’m curious what others think~

    Posted by Solsetur

    • mm i wrote a thing on this in Discord:

i mean i think there is value in being honest with the fact that this happened etc, the problem is that neeson is smart, but he's not woke
he doesn't know how to broach the subject responsibly and fucked up in telling the story
the fucking point he missed is that those thoughts never exist outside of a vacuum, the same way he was able to acknowledge that growing up in the Troubles was part of his conditioning
he should be able to accept that being a white man with power over black people was/is too
and when people said he is a racist he shoulda said "yes"
it's fucked and i have sought help. because we;re all racists and systems make us like this'
'we need to be honest with our selves to fix it'
      'hence i am sharing my story';

  • Hey, I read your essay about incels and toxic masculinity. I didn't agree with it 100%, but I did agree with most of it. It was a good read and I am glad I can sorta comprehend it better when I see you use it as opposed to some abstract buzz word. Thank you for writing it!

  • Hey Lucretia I was wondering if I could get your insight on something because you are a smart dude. I don’t know if you heard but recently there’s been s thing in the news about a white girl wearingva China’s dress for prom and well it’s sparked controversy. That said I firmly believe cultural appropriation is a legitimate issue but with all the noise going from so many people I’d like the opinion of someone who I think is knowledgeable in these matters

    • Haha no problem dude looking forward to your thoughts on the matter :)

      Posted by JPineapple

    • So first of all, I ain't Chinese, upfront. So I'm not personally affected but I think that this story needs to be looked at from two perspectives, firstly what would Chinese Americans feel, and what would Chinese people in China feel.

Of course there is diversity of opinion within those two groups, and nothing I say here is prescriptive.

But Chinese Americans have been through so much shit, like exclusionary racial acts, intense racism and discrimination, parody and satire all aimed at them. they are still marginalised and caricatured in many ways in contemporary American society, and severely underrepresented in American media.

Meanwhile Chinese people abroad, I have read that many of them either just don't care or think it is cute and "an achievement" for Chinese culture. And that is a very valid position as well, and one that is kind of ideal? They are the hegemonic cultural force within their space, so they're not defensive about their culture. Where as Chinese Americans are a minority and thus defensive about what is theirs, and I completely understand being pissed off at seeing someone from the oppressor class be able to wear your cultural clothing, and be celebrated for it, when if you did it, you're seen as an outsider for engaging in your culture all the time. In an ideal world, Chinese Americans would not be marginalised, and wouldn't feel the need to be defensive about their culture, in so far as the person using the dress is doing so respectfully and inline with the cultural value the dress holds.

But it's not an ideal world, and personally I think white Americans should respect the wishes of the minorities who are oppressed in some form or another.

Also white people shouldn't automatically assume offence on behalf of people of colour. It is annoying and does the entire anti-racist movement a disservice imo.

  • To tag Dark Link Reigns, or anyone with a name with more than 2 spaces, you sadly have to type out their full name with the "at" sign, followed by the half quote signs " ' " his name, in full, ended with another half quote sign " ' ". Also, There might be an actual name for the half quote sign... Hah.
Don't know if the following will actually tag him, but if it doesn't, then it will be educational for everyone.

  • I want you to know that even though we probably disagree on a lot and I have not had the best interactions with people who share similar views, I am extremely interested in not creating any disdain or tension between us. Deeper understanding of others is far more important than winning a debate.

    Posted by Kamare

    • You already posted that? I am not sure what you're getting at, you disagree with my views and think we are going to clash?

      Posted by Lucretia

    • Didn't I delete it from the thread? It was off topic, in my opinion. I clash with most people and I'm working on being less egotistical about it. Burning bridges has left me exiled on an island surrounded by burnt bridges. I am also making my intentions clear preemptively because socio-political discussions evoke strong emotions. Similar arguments I have made on that thread have been accused of being talking points belonging to a specific group. You have been incredibly respectful and not really given me reason to expect a clash.

      Posted by Kamare

    • I swear, I am capable of talking less like a pretentious, lazy robot and more like a...not that.

      Posted by Kamare

    • No you did sorry i didn't see it was deleted before i replied to this, ma bad

I am pretty combative though if I feel I am not being spoken to in good faith or I smell racism/sexism/discriminatory views

    • Lmao das some spicy shit

Too spicy for me even jajaja though i do get a kick of it if it is satire. If it's for real then lol, they're entitled to their opinion. I gotta take less of a hardline in my own activism

      Posted by Lucretia

    • Haha yeah, judging from the person who posted, she sounded very serious because it was for a heated debate int he comments.

      Posted by Aquamentus

  • >lol did you hover over this thinking i was going to translate this for you? lmao<

This is by a good distance one of the best truespoiler trollings on this forum :b

  • What exactly is it do you do Lucretia besides looking handsome with your gorgeous hair and your intelligent ways?

    Posted by Aquamentus

    • As in my job/real life stuff? jaja

Well I work for an international girls' rights organisation, in their media and youth engagement team, where I specifically handle a group of young activists.

I'm about to finish a Masters in International Relations, where I wrote a thesis on Venezuela, but I specialise in gender and radicalisation theory.

And I run an activist group for Venezuelan Australians here in Australia :)

      How about you?

      Posted by Lucretia

    • I am working on my masters in law or LL.M with a paid internship at a law firm with mechanical engineering courses. I am attempting to become a patent lawyer. Gosh, it seems you are doing better work than I am haha. I am just trying to make a quick buck. Its pretty cool that you are studying and pursuing things that are of interest to you.

But this explains a lot of the content of your posts in the serious discussion section. Your posts are alwyas meaningful and eye opening to me. Its actually pretty rad of you dude.

Are there many Venezuelans in Australia?

      Posted by Aquamentus

    • Hahaha nah, to each their own given their context. I am lucky enough that my parents were always able to deliver for me, so I have the privilege of working in a place like the one I do. Thanks dude! I'm pretty happy with my position in life so far :)

Gah thanks, I get a lot more hate than praise for my posts around the place, so it's good to hear that hahaha. I am glad you get something from them! I have noticed you like them from time to time!

There's only a small population, about 5000 in total, only 1000 in my city, which is about 4.3 million people. But we're passionate, especially considering what is happening to the country at the moment.

      Posted by Lucretia

    • I mainly peruse the SD threads, and well generally most threads on mobile when I am checking my messages on my phone. So I give many things a like that catch my eye, make me laugh, or provide a good point and for many occasions, you have done all of those things.

I am generally not one to "hate" on someone for their beliefs or messages. I try to live by a philosophy where I attempt to understand every different point of view, for the most part haha. (Depends on my attitude) I suppose at times I disagree with you on certain subjects but I wouldn't give you any hate for it lmao.

That type of organization of folk who are passionate about a political cause concerning the events that occurring in Venezuela is amazing, no matter how small although when you reach the thousands, that seems to be pretty big to me haha. I have been in America, and the country I grew up (which I assure you is far away from either South American countries and Australia) for most of my life so I have been pretty ignorant for the most part on situations such as these. I honestly didn't expect that many Venezuelan folk in Australia, thats pretty cool, especially for your cause and beliefs.

The only things I really stood for were the various liberal protests we'd hold in university or BLM marches which are pretty common in my area. However, holding a sign really doesn't do crap for the most part. It seems like you are aiming to do a lot more.

      Posted by Aquamentus

    • well you are a dude, so you should be sent to the moon forever, if you don't hate me for that then you're either able to understand a joke or a saint.

Its been pretty good so far. We've managed to meet with the foreign minister and a couple of other Senators/MPs to discuss Australia's involvement so it's been pretty good. Before this year the community was very disparate, but given that our families are literally struggling to find food to eat or medicine, it has been a pretty unifying experience.

I'd say that you showing solidarity does a lot more than you'd think! It's unreasonable to expect everyone to work for an NGO, but stepping out to a protest supports marginalised communities a lot.

      Posted by Lucretia

  • If I wasn't on my phone and busy right now, I'd unleash my words in SD lol

    Posted by Serenity

    • lol that's like basically the only time i get to post anymore!

      Posted by Lucretia

  • Can't you just start another thread about men's issues without the sarcasm?

    Posted by Evran_Speer

    • i'm worried if i do that, that people will *still* derail it into some bullshit about how i am a misandrist. i don't think i am the person to lead that conversation.

      Posted by Lucretia

  • Lol SD really is a pisshole.

    Posted by Serenity

  • Well, I'm certainly posting more in Serious Discussion.

    Posted by Serenity

  • Have you seen the movie Lion?

Posted by Viajero de la Galaxia

    • yes! i saw it on a plane. it was so weird to see my city in a movie hahaha

      Posted by Lucretia

    • I think it's my favorite movie of the year so far, I was curious to hear what you thought of it

Posted by Viajero de la Galaxia

    • i thought it was really strong, but honestly i watched it and kinda forgot about it. it touches on some really important themes and was a total heart string puller, but yeah i wasn't THAT in love with it.

the party scene though and that house... lmao that is the most like hipster melbourne thing ever. it is EXACTLY like that here.

      Posted by Lucretia

    • Yeah a lot of critics describe the buildup at the very end as being emotionally manipulative, and they're not really wrong, but it didn't bother me by that point in the film.

and everything I'm told about Melbourne is that it's supposed to be this hipster bastion - I can't think of any US cities that have the same reputation lol aside from maybe Portland or Austin

Posted by Viajero de la Galaxia

    • sorta. it's a bit of like, a tale of two cities. the yuppies who live in the inner city suburbs, to the north, east and the south are certainly where that reputation comes from, but melbourne is actually huge on a basis of square metres, because very few people live in apartment buildings. everyone wants a house.

so if you drive like, 25km in any direction, or hell just to the west, you see a very different melbourne, one which is much less hip, very multicultural, but also with its pockets of conservativism and lower socio economic areas. It's an interesting place, but that hipster bastion idea is only from the inner city. WHICH IS where most of what melbourne is famous for, is.

  • It's also kind of a paradox for me to criticize and deal with bullshit from men, but still technically be attracted to masculine individuals. Like AAAAH sometimes I wish I was just a lesbian lol even though they deal with their own problems. I still absolutely identify as queer, but the experiences I had in San Francsico was like I was drinking coffee my whole life, and then I discovered meth, so now I'm dealing with that, but I gotta focus all my time into getting surgeries. I got a reconstruction surgery recently that was insured. Basically, heart surgery as a baby destroyed an entire inframammary ligament, causing me to have only one real breast for my entire life up until recently. That surgery actually finally happening was crazy.
