• Yeah that song is pretty damn great too. The majority of that album is actually really good too.

• yo yo any time! I sincerely enjoy critiquing and will get to part 2 soon-like.

Posted by Lly

• yeah, a lot of them are a bit of a wank. we want to hear how good we are, how talented... I mean, christ, that's half the reason I've been posting my stuff online all these years. praise is a sweet, sweet drug I can't seem to quit.

but I've honestly found that online critique is a much more useful tool for growth than in-person critique. people are more inclined to be ruthless, and there's that "screen between us" factor. I've been part of an online critique group for 3 months now and can already see/feel improvements in my work, whereas I think I got worse after my creative writing classes.

tl;dr college is pointless yo just drop out amirite

Posted by Lly

• holy crap, that's worse than I thought.

although I always felt like such an unrestrained jerkass in, like, all my writing classes. I am very critical of other peoples' writing, so I, uh, tended to not make friends among most of my classmates. >>

• I read a quote recently about how you cannot become a good writer until you think you're the worst writer in the world (or something like that) so I'm trying it on for a size. hey, looks like it's working! whee.

re: critiques. I have also generally found creative writing classes to be literally the worst, particularly at the college level. I write genre, and every person I meet wanted to be either Jonathan Franzen or Tao Lin. the resultant snobbery was just unbelievable. that, and most everyone either didn't know how to take critique or didn't know how to give critique.

• thanks again times a million for reading my stupid amateur bullshit. I critiqued your first piece because yeah! hope you don't mind I was wearing my editor pants. it was great, though, and I'll get around to your other stuff eventually, pinky swear!

• I will add you. I am only lvl 29 though. I am alright, I know most of the things you are supposed to know I think, but I have a relatively low champion pool that I am useful with right now.

• 1. what is your summoner name
2. do you play very often

Posted by Jordan

• not a whole lot, travelling across the country in old cars, drinking whiskey, the usual. what've you been up to?

• for a long time I wanted to teach english, at the college level. Lately I have been reconsidering this though, and thought about getting into sociology instead. I can be the soc. major everyone laughs at.

Posted by Jordan

• nah, don't get into commerce. maybe I'm totally wrong about this but the way I see it just about anyone can be taught to do that effectively, whereas someone who can TEACH especially well has a more... specialized skillset, I guess.

I don't know whether or not you could teach but I figure you should at least do something outside of crunching numbers, and leave that to people with less whimsy.

Posted by Jordan

• aha well at least you'll be used to being poor having been a student ;)

what brings you back to zu after all this time?

Posted by Ben

• Are you still set on teaching high school?

I wanted to study English, but my parents weren't really okay with that so I'm studying Engineering and I'm going to minor in English and then go into law. That's the plan right now.
