Darn it, Vesperia crashes sometimes in handheld mode...
There's an update for the game but I can't download it. Something tells me it fixes the crashes but... no wi-fi...
Did you have any issues with it?
I'm playing it on PC, not Switch, so I haven't had any issues like that. Afraid I don't have any suggestions, beyond figuring out why you can't download the update, 'cause that probably helps.
Aaahhhh, all that FF9 talk is making my chest ache. Like, seriously, even after all these years, thinking about the game makes me warm and fuzzy and sad.
Confession time: I've never finished it. <<
I really mean to, I really, really, like the characters, but I was really bad about not actually finishing games when I first played it. At this point I think I'll have to start over. Should do that when I finish up Tales of Vesperia.
I dream that someday they will do a remake... like ff7. I'm not sure that I will replay the original 9 again because I have lately been getting bored with random encounters/ grinding. Newer games seem to have strategies to make grinding less painful, but the old school ones get really repetitive.
Hah, given the mess the FF7 remake seems to be going through that might be a monkey's paw sort of wish there.
But yeah, remakes of FFVI-IX (well, maybe not VIII :P) with updated graphics (keep the sprite art for VI, just do a bit more with it) and modern quality-of-life changes would be really nice. It was only a decade ago (roughly) that S-E was doing really good remakes of the first six FF games on all sorts of systems. Then they stopped and started doing really, really shoddy mobile ports for some reason, and now they can't seem to remake the 3D ones to save their lives. It's all very strange.
Hey John, can you help me? I have a Switch question: every time I turn off the system and I plug it up to charge, it turns on by itself. Is there any way to stop it from doing that???
Hmm, in the dock? Or directly?
I don't know what to do to change it, or even if it can be changed, I'm afraid. For mine, I drop it in the dock, it turns out for a second, then turns the screen off, I think it does the same when plugged in directly, though I rarely do that and am not certain.
I always just plug it in directly. I wish it would stay off lol
Anyway, thanks! Are you excited for Vesperia??
Not sure. I really loved Berseria, but other Tales games have been much more mixed with me. I'm going to need to find someone who can compare it to Berseria for me, I suspect.
Hmm... I wish I could help. Berseria looks really good, but all I have is a Switch. I wish it would get ported (alongside about 50 other games)
Hey! Have you seen Golden Time yet? I just finished it and wondered if you had any thoughts on it.
I have not, I'm afraid. I...honestly hadn't heard of it, in fact, not entirely sure it'd be my thing, but I'll put it on my "to look into" list.
At the moment I'm not watching much, but I'm very hype for the Princess Tutu BD release in a month, and I'll probably blitz through that once I get my hands on it. <<
I want to watch it too! I love Princess Tutu! And yeah don’t bother with Golden Time
I found the greatest/sassiest liveblog of PT the other day: sailormoonsub.tumblr.com/tagged/sms-watches-pt/chrono
Yesssssss! Going down the tumblr spiral of doom now, see you on the other side!
Vignettes? Are you studying for the GRE or something?! Haha love your vocabulary!
Heh, I used to read a tonne when I was little, and the vocab from that has stuck with me.
Oh, also, so I don't forget, the Utena movie watching this Sunday! The movie is stand-alone (...OK, the fandom debates that, it's...confusing. :P) and you've seen enough of the show that you should get pretty much every reference it makes to the series. Also, it's not available to stream online, unlike the series, so it'll be harder to watch on your own time, I'm afraid.
As always, if you can't make it or don't think it's something you want to do that's cool, but in case you thought you had to have finished the show first, well, nope!
Is it the cartoon or the live action one?!
Its relationship to the show is...confused, in some ways. In that I can't actually tell you how it relates to the show because no one is certain.
Suffice to say it technically stands alone, but is more enjoyable if you know who the characters are and can recognize all the references it drops.
A warning that it does have Barbie doll-style nudity, and so is less tame than the show in that regard.
Bahaha I can handle it! I’ll try to watch with you guys, I’m actually flying home this weekend so I SHOULD be able to watch! What time do you plan on streaming?
Noon EDT (16:00 UTC, 09:00 Pacific) on the Sunday.
Momodora looks amazing! And it’s easier than what I’ve been picking up lately? I’ve been on a roll with Shovel Knight, Ori, and Hollow Knight but need something slightly less “i die constantly” haha!
...Actually, hmm, it's probably on the difficult end of things, now that I think about it. << Didn't even occur to me when I suggested it.
Haha that’s okay! I’ll put it on my list for when I want a challenge! Which is normally the case... I just want something stardew valleyish. But platforming. Like fun, a challenge, but not all the death. Just some of it.
Hey! Just was catching up in the Nayru thread and I completely agree with Scarly--you just have a way of talking/expressing your opinions that shows you're a deep thinker and actually want to talk and engage about things in a meaningful way. Talking to you is always fun and I usually learn something too! Hope your day is going well!
As I said, I tend to be kinda detached when I write, and this can be both good and bad. It's not that I don't care, it's that I...can partially disconnect my emotions (not fully, no one can do that, and if they could then they wouldn't actually write anything 'cause no motivation and all that) so that I don't feel them as strongly and write from that perspective. When I can't do that I can get...pretty petty and vicious. <<
Still, I'm glad to know that it's not seen as my not caring, because that's honestly something I've worried about.
Anyway, my day's going well (because somehow that Utena musical shipping from Japan reached my door in under 24 hours, which is bonkers), how's yours?
I was wondering how it arrived so quickly! that's awesome! and no not at all, if anything you come across as someone with a level head. I've always liked your conversation/debate style. things are going well! I got sushi and then since the girls who work at the cookie shop like me, they gave me free cookies! It was very nice of them haha, so that for sure made my day. And I will need to work out more tomorrow haha.
Hah, I've started doing simple workouts throughout the day and while I don't think it's helping me lose weight, it is weird to actually have arm muscles. Not, like, lots of them, but if I flex they're not perfectly flat. It's very strange.
That's so awesome! Those are called gainz! congrats!! You'll get there!
Heh, we'll see if I keep 'em.
Honestly, I'm mostly fine with my weight. I dropped about 60 pounds over the course of a year...and then hovered where I am for a year after that, with the last 10 pounds refusing to go away. But going from ~250lbs to ~180 is something I'm proud of. The exercise is to both try and keep the weight off and to ensure that I'm generally healthier, since average mass != healthy and all that.
Not for any particular reason ~ just feeling warm and fuzzy when I read your posts sometimes.
Hehe, well thanks!
I find it interesting that Himiko is basically depressed all the time in the technical term.
Yeah, that's about right.
I dunno if they were trying to write her as depressed, but certainly her lethargy and disinterest are very common symptoms.
And yeah, even if she isn't Depressed, she is depressed.
She's also a Chuni that I can actually stand, which is unusual.
And Miu basically just seems really manic.
She was never my favourite character, but she was at least not a jerk.
Did you get the bonus scene with her and Himiko training?
That was... such a weird death. He was basically a far less likable version of Toko. Split personality, killing tons of women... This guy is male Toko.
I love Kokichi!
This little shit plays the killing game like how I play Mafia.
No lie, he's one of my favourite characters for a whole bunch of reasons, one of which the game never outright states, just implies.
Finished trial 2. RIP mom. I actually liked her, but I have a thing for mother figures so lol
I liked them too, even if they took the "hyper-competent" thing kinda ridiculously far.
Also, how do you feel about the executions this time round? I found them all much more...vicious than in DR1 or 2.
I’d get behind Sailor Moon Warriors!
I'm not even much of a Sailor Moon fan and I'd buy it in a heartbeat. It's got a lot of stuff that would make a great Warriors title: A large cast with diverse "weapons", variety in enemies, easy ways to justify non-canon plots, etc.
Lots of series would work really well with the Warriors setup, honestly. Though now my brain has jumped to Madoka Magica Warriors which...no. No no no. No no no no no no no.
This is too much, man.
I WANT HER BACK GDI
I think I mentioned that I figured out the twist before the reveal, but had to leave the game for a day after doing so.
I spent the next 24 hours going "...surely not, no..."
And yeah, while I have my issues with V3, it does stuff like this twist real well.
Trial 2. What a setup.
Though I haven't started the investigation yet.
Trial 2...oh, right, heh, yeah, V3 goes big on the elaborate setups.
Shuichi is adorable these two are the perfect couple.
I *really* liked Kaede, but Shuichi does actually have a personality, which is nice.
Finally at the class trial. After like 12 hours.
Miu is weird. Tsumgui is creepy. Rantaro is cool. Kaede is precious. Shuichi is adorable. Wizard is oddly entertaining. I actually like Tenko. Gonta has a kind of weird VA, but other than that, he's cool. Angie ain't bad.
Kind of wish that Kokichi was less blunt about his evil. It's more effective to reveal yourself as evil than to simply claim it, which is why thus far, I think Nagito > Kokichi, but it's still early in the game. I just love Komaeda as a character, though. He is the best character in the whole series imo he was just so fucking great in his being chaotic neutral.
Ryoma is there. Kiibo is pretty cute. Korekiyo certainly looks cool, and so does the Maid. Astronaut is like... lol idk he looks interesting. He seems like a different version of Kiyotaka.
Maki, though. Love her design and her absolute territory.
Maki-roll is great. Probably my favourite character out of V3.
Wow isn’t that Ganon dwarf who visited my sig shop
A long time ago, in a ZU very close to this one.
SO I'm getting to DRV3 asap
Honestly, this game night have gotten a mixed reception from fans, but I think that it's my most favorite Danganronpa game.
Hah, I mean, I could see it working.
Based on where each character is relative to DR1, this would mean that Bugs Bunny killed Fred. THE ULTIMATE CROSS DRESSER
God I can't stop thinking about Komaeda every so often. He was such a good character.
Hehe, yep, he adds a welcome dynamic to the second game, making it more than students vs. Monokuma, by having a smart character who opposes Monokuma but has goals at odds with most of the class, and whose personal philosophy is twisted, but in a logically sound way. If you accept his premises then you pretty much have to come to the same conclusions he does.
The fact that he's a deconstruction of Makoto is just icing on the cake.
I want more Nagito lol I might watch DR3.
He, along with the rest of the DR2 class, show up in the prequel Despair arc. It gives you a chance to see what he's like in less stressful situations, as well as the inevitable tragedy that any prequel to the games has to have.
Something about these games that frustrates me is how I SWEAR I used a bullet point on a specific line, but when I get fed up after retrying some three times, the guide that I've used only in frustratingly repetitive times during these bullet point sections tells me to do the thing that I swear I already did. Jfc
I've only really had to use a guide for trials five and six but gdi lol
Heh, truth bullets can hit white noise that you'd think they'd miss, or miss shots you'd think they'd hit, and that can be real annoying, yeah.
It is done.
This has been an experience.
All of this hope and despair stuff is kind of corny, but that was a hell of an ending. The part where I was in an endless loop on the island threw me off. I went to a previous save and repeated the previous bullet section with hope > despair, because I thought it was doing some Doki Doki Literature Club type stuff on me, but nope, though I did like fighting the game itself.
I... won't play DRV3 just right now. I need to make sure I have a job before I spend $60 on that kind of a game.
This game took me 70 hours to beat wtf it isn't like I'm a slow reader.
Ultimate Gamer more like Ultimate Cutie.
I bought Danganronpa 2.
I like that Komaeda is your tutorial person. I'm super distrustful of him as such. I know he's fucked up in some way.
It's worth spending time with him at least once before the first case. He's one of my favourite characters from 2, and that's all I'm saying.
And yeah, Chihiro is pretty great. 2's characters are more...extreme than 1's, so my reactions to them are stronger, meaning the ones I don't like I really don't like (though they manage to partially redeem my least favourite one; they're still a jerk, but not through-and-through) and the ones I like I quite enjoy. Maybe only two or three of them are neutral, as opposed to maybe half the cast of 1.
Oh, and keep your eye out for the deliberate similarities and contrasts with 1. Like, many of the characters in 2 are kinda "fusions" of ones from 1, or provide commentary on them in some way (like, there's one character who is pretty much the opposite of Celeste: Noble born European, loves Japanese "lowbrow" culture).
Ms. Nevermind. Ultimate Princess how did they put me in this game without my permission I swear some people.
I can see the parallels, though. Like in the beginning of Danganronpa 1, Sayaka was a stereotypical cute anime girl. Now Nagito is the same except he is a boy. And I'm just as uneased as Hajime.
I am curious what you think about Byakuya's new look.
This bitch... is a whole other level of nuts.
Aaaand I'm done with Danganronpa 1.
Hehe, I really like how DR1 ends, it's a combination of utterly ridiculous and oddly heartfelt.
Also, yeah, the villain is pretty great.
What's your overall opinion of the game?
Apparently, the next games might have me in a virtual reality? idk I was in on the wiki, but omg this game series goes off the rails.
Stay away from spoilers! (seriously, though, 2 has some whoppers that you won't want spoiled).
There's pros and cons to diving right into 2. The big pro is that 2 has several things set up deliberately to evoke and/or contrast with 1 (some characters are mirror images of ones in 1, for example), and you're more able to see/appreciate those is 1 is still fresh in your mind.
On the other hand, 2 has the same gameplay loop as 1, and I, at least, suffered a bit of burnout from that, simply having too much of the same, even though the writing was still really good and original.
Toko is one kinky girl. She is hardcore bdsm.
Honestly I think Toko is my most favorite character right now in this game. The devs must have loved her. Glad she doesn't murder anyone on chapter two. She's such a character.
Heh, Toko, what a surprise, has issues. She *is* an interesting character, if a bit one-note.
I generally find 2 is better than 1 at giving characters depth, but the cast of 1 is pretty fun.
Still on Chapter 4, then? Is an interesting one, for sure. I'll be interested in your predictions once you hit Chapter 5.
