Welcome one and all to this month-long community fitness event!
While this is technically going to be a competition, it is not meant to be intense or unfriendly.
Think of this as more of a personal competition with yourself, to improve on your fitness and overall health.
How this works:
This competition will consist of four weeks, with different fitness/health challenges each week.
There will be three different sections for participants to choose from before the competition starts; beginner, intermediate, advanced.
Pick the one you feel you can complete, but also will push and challenge you- for example, if you feel you're on the line between beginner and intermediate, choose the intermediate option and see how you do!
During each week, participants should post within the Weekly challenge thread their successes, failures, and different techniques they've discovered along the way. The only requirement I have for the thread is I would like everyone to tally up how many challenges they successfully completed each week.
Preferably, everyone's goal would be to complete five challenges each week. There will be around seven challenges posted each week to accommodate those without the means to go to a gym.
I will be recording these privately, because at the end of each week I will post the participant who is currently completing the most challenges, and the participant who is improving most each week.
At the end of the four weeks, the winning participant from each category will win a prize! -- probably something very cool for their signature set here on ZU.
There are a couple of challenges marked with an *asterisk. These challenges are bonus challenges, for people who might not have completed other challenges, and want to catch up, or for people looking for more to do, for that extra push.
*While many of these fitness challenges are gym-based, I understand some people do not have access to a gym, or choose to do their physical activity elsewhere.
If you are one of these people, and would still like to participate, you can do modified versions of these challenges -- just be sure to post in the thread which activity you are substituting, and let us know what alternative method you've chosen.
As long as it is challenging enough for your category, I will absolutely count this as a successful completion of that challenge!
-- I'll also be posting reference links for yoga poses, floor exercises, and resistance band exercises for people if they need help with descriptions or for substituting out challenges. --
The challenges will go up at the beginning of each week, and you will have the whole week to complete them before the next set is released.
While it is preferable that you follow the schedule, if you want to work on challenges from a previous week, let us know in the thread and I can add them to your total score!
I want this experience to be challenging but fun, and I want participants to be encouraging and kind to their fellow competitors.
This is meant to be a positive challenge, so negativity or shaming of any kind will not be tolerated, and anyone seen not following these rules will be instantly removed from the competition and subject to ZU moderation.
And as always, all of the rest of the ZU rules and guidelines must be adhered; you can find those listed here.
The purpose of this thread is to serve as a General Hub -- for questions, bracket changes, late sign-ups and (hopefully no) drop outs.
The active weekly challenges will be live here<----- for everyone to post their weekly results/successes/failures.
The competition is now running -- from Sunday, November 26th to Sunday, December 24th.
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!
