You know me pretty well. When have I ever attempted anything that wasn't impossible?
I'm all for attempting the impossible, but generally the impossible task should be something desirable. Why do you want everyone to use one skin?
We don't have the resources to maintain multiple designs. I was really being a bit facetious; the impossible task is trying to manage many designs. Making a single design that pleases a majority is actually a far easier solution. It also creates consistency with the main site. We don't make "skins" for the main site, and it follows logically that we wouldn't for the forums either.
This also jives with future plans we have for the forums. You're going to see the line between the forums and the main site blur significantly in the future. If they don't share the exact same design, we can't integrate the two together seamlessly. We imagine having forum discussions take place on the main site, even within our walkthroughs potentially. Everything has to be completely consistent.
It may not make much sense in the context of how traditional forums function, but it will make more sense as we move into the future. I don't talk about our future plans publicly, but they're as typically massive as you'd expect from me and the ZU team, and our design decisions will make far more sense when we reach those milestones.
In short: this design isn't a "skin". ZU is now a single piece of software with one design and implementation everywhere. The forums and the main site are no longer separate.
