Quote from Skywing: “I've only moved once, and I guess it was relatively small compared to some of yours, although still a pretty big move on the scale of this little island that is Great Britain. I grew up in Walthamstow, London, where my dad's side of the family are from. When I was 18, I left school and my grandmother passed away, and by this time both of my parents had retired. So we had no reason to stay in London. And so we moved to a small town in the Peak District (pretty much in the mid…

Quote from Candace: “Thanks for the thread, I really liked your writing style and the idea itself. Expectations are hard. That was a real disappointment for me when I visited the school after 3 years at University and teachers asked me: "What about your current projects? What about your science achivments? Have some?". I had to say no, I tried to tell about my first trip abroad which I payed by myself, but that was not the thing they wanted to hear from me. My classmate went to Harward, and I'm …

  • Quote from Lady Sunshine: “IHow do people workout in the mornings? I know afterwards I’ll feel great but I feel like I’m not as efficient, fast, or motivated. ” I think in general it's definitely harder to work out right in the morning so maybe build up slowly? My current morning workout is pretty light and more like an extension of my general morning routine than its own thing. It's really natural for me to stretch upon waking up, I just slowly added structure and more movements and now I have …

Quote from Winnie: “Okay just so you know, Kansas City is not a sleepy little Midwest town, the music and food scenes are amazing, they have a bakery selling homemade pop tarts, proof there are hipsters everywhere, and it’s very driveable. The BBQ is to die for and each month they have these Friday night art walks that are parties for blocks, oh and every food truck in town shows up. So yeah just something to consider! ” I'm less worried about lack of "culture" and more about lack of...geographi…

  • Quote from Vulpes: “Another hour of rowing today. I've found it's best not to watch the clock constantly, and instead close my eyes and just row. I'm considering getting a neck pillow so that I can close my eyes and basically take a nap while I work out. ” Whenever I row, unless I'm doing distance stuff or intervals, I try to adjust the little clock so that I can't see it. Hate staring at it when I'm trying to go for long times haha.

Quote from Winnie: “Hmm well it seems like you have a lot of options, and you are interested in living in a lot of high cost of living areas. So, did you go to school for something where you'll make over $100k at your first job? If not scratch San Francisco off your list. And even if you do end up making between 100-200k at your first job you'll end up living in Oakland and not actually SF and besides the amazing sandwich shops it's just not the same. Generally you probably will just move wherev…

Quote from Guinea: “A long time ago, I moved a few towns over to stay with my cousin and "just live my life". Well, that life consisted of cutting trees and making sandwiches all day, and... it just wasn't for me. I learned a long time ago that home is home, and I already had one. Sure, bills are a ##### and this place has caused me a lot of trouble, but everytime I'm away from it, I just want to go home. Not saying that moving was just a flat out horrible experience. I loved it at first! New pa…

Why it didn't stick the first time... - Condo - less scary area in CT, this one actually had woods in the back. - House (rented) - suburbs of MA; it was on a freaking lake, it was amazing. Lots of kayaking. - Condo - Boston; East side baby! Blue line! Go Pats! 5 minute ride into the heart of it. - Apartment…

  • On Netflix, if it hasn't been said yet, I would highly recommend "In This Corner of the World". It's a surprisingly mature view on how World War II affected civilian Japanese families. As for manga, the latest OPM chapter was awesome.

When I lived with my parents, I moved 3 separate times, from Providence to Nashville and then to Dallas. In Dallas we moved between 3 different houses. After one year in a dorm at college, I then moved into an apartment and I've been here for 4 years now. Now that I've graduated college I'm trying to go elsewhere and move somewhere different to explore. The problem is that, I'm not really sure where I want to go - Austin has been an amazing city and I really like it here, so it's a bit unfair. S…

One thing that worked really well for me with my anxiety was just actively forgiving myself. Even if I didn't feel bad about something, just telling myself "it's okay" somehow helped me deal with things a little better. Even though it's not even someone else that's forgiving me, I get a similar sort of relief. I think something that more generally aligns with the social media/mindfulness angle is just understanding that the world I perceive is a separate world from the actual world, and also fro…

"i won't judge you if you want me to pick you up later" "it's awful outside!" you get the idea. has it been snowing all day? yes. is it still snowing? yes. is it awful outside? yes! but, did i still walk home? heck yeah i did! also, bonus points, i shoveled the driveway when i got home~ sure, it's not the gym or a fancy workout. and suuure, walking home fr…

  • My "core" routine is basically: 3-4 sets of incline sit ups 3-4 sets of hanging leg/knee raises 3-4 sets of some kind of cable oblique exercise (pallof press, wood chop) 5 ish sets of hyperextensions/reverse hypers I do this routine once or twice a week, with the main point being for general health/posture/back health. I do about 10 reps per set with all exercises. Once 10 reps get's easy, I add resistance. For example, I started off doing regular situps with arms crossed, then with hands behind…

  • I kind of meal prepped when I was trying to lose weight, where I'd make big batches of food but not with a strict schedule. Nowadays I just eat/cook whatever. As for banana bread recipes I vote this one. But only because I have baked with a few recipes from this site with good success.

  • Twilight Princess had the scariest moments for me. The part where zant's hands are chasing you was very intense, especially with the music. There was also the jumpscare in snowpeak. I think it has a very visually visceral quality to it that also made a lot of other parts more scary than other Zelda games, especially the arbiter's ground enemies.

I'm glad you're out of that relationship - like Winnie said there's lots of positives, but honestly even more importantly she straight up sounds abusive. As for getting over things...it takes time. Especially if you felt as strongly about her as you say you do, it can take a damn long time. You've already explained a lot how you feel, and I think you already know that she did use you, and abuse you. Whether you realize it now or not, I think you also know that you deserve better. My advice would…

  • I was suckered in reading about the stone tower temple theory, from ZeldaWiki. I haven't really been active in some 4 or 5 years now - ever since the site got completely refreshed especially - came back just now randomly to see what was going on!

  • SUP GUYS been hitting da gym recently back squat 135 to 300 lbs in about 3 months Dead lift 185 to 315 lbs power cleans! i love power cleans. i'm starting to study olympic weightlifters! de loading now, wanna see how far i can get by the end of the summer : )

  • Just started lifting again, hoping to get back to full strength! Starting light but I think I'll be up to 245 squat/295 DL/185 bench (lbs) within a couple weeks.

  • I dunno where to post this BUT this seemed like a decent enough place. It's sort of about motivation? I was having a discussion with a friend of mine about this. All action requires sacrifice. Time, energy, and other resources act as the currency of our existence. To not act, that is, to not induce some sort of change in ourselves or our surroundings, can prolong one's life at the cost of living. With that in mind, there are essentially two categories by which we can judge action: PURPOSE and ME…

  • General athleticism. I don't really care for my looks as long as I can have a fuller sense of control over my body - whether that means operating under heavy loads or for long distances or whatever you'd like to think of. Feeling healthy (strong, fast, flexible, etc) is the most important thing for me fitness wise.

  • Quote from Ge0kinetic: “So hey, I started getting better at doing push ups -my current record in on go is 24 at the moment. It's not a lot, I know, but I'm getting there. Thing is, I noticed that my back hurts after every work out session where push ups are involved, and as far as I can tell from checking my pose in the mirror, I'm not doing anything wrong. Is this normal?” Where does your back hurt?

My waist went back to how it was when I was 240 pounds, and even though I feel stronger, I am not really making much in the way of fat loss progress, I eat rougly 2000-2500c a day, and I'm constantly moving, so I don't really know what I'm doing wrong. I don't eat much in the way of processed grains, or overly saturated…

  • Quote from Ge0kinetic: “Does anyone have any tips for doing pushups? I work out my upper body, arms and legs regularly, and would consider myself moderately fit, but for some reason I absolutely cannot do push-ups -whenever I get past 15, I find it really hard to breath and feels like my head is about to explode.” Make sure you're breathing while you're doing push ups, for one - based on what you're feeling you're probably holding your breath which helps keep your abs tight (among other things) …

  • Quote from Snake: “I noticed my waist line seems bigger with the more exercise I've been doing, yet when I was in my more sloth like lifestyle I was "skinnier" but now that I'm starting to actually look healthy again (Hidden Content) but my clothes are fitting tighter on my waist and legs.
