  • I figured "Hylian" refers to any pointy-earred humanoid in the Zelda universe who isn't specifically said to be something else (like a Sheikah). So that would include most of the residents of Clock Town in Termina and the Loruleans as well.

I have some good news! I finally got a spot for Arden at a daycare! As a bonus, it's right by my apartment, literally 2 blocks away, and on my walk to work! I really think this will be the best thing for him. He'll start the tuesday after the Civic Holiday, so Tues Aug 7! We finally got a meeting for him to see a speech pathologist too (we've been trying to get him in since November). It figures, though, that by the time we managed to schedule a meeting he hardly needs it anymore. Just in the la…

  • I was featured in an episode of a documentary tv show made for my provincial public television station. It was about people with disabilities and their search for meaningful work. Unfortunately the job I got through the show only lasted half as long as it should have, because they were royal douches once the cameras were off. However, it directly helped me get my current job, so all's good! You can check it out at the following link (just fast forward through the parts with the other guy :P) Emp…

  • LA isn't vague about its placement at all. It outright states in its instruction manual that it takes place after ALttP. I'll find the exact quote after work today. But it was made back in the days when a lot of game lore was protrayed via the instruction manuals, so I take that as canon. Edit: As promised

Spun off from the Racism in Zelda thread: Regarding the boy-crazy Gerudo: I found that a little annoying in BotW as well. The Gerudo just "finding boyfriends" in Castle Town seemed to be more realistic for their group, IMO. That is, if they bothered with males at all. Hey, if Wonder Woman can mention lesbian Amazons, why not the Gerudo? To be fair, not every Gerudo mentioned wanting to find an outright going-to-stay-with-this-Voe-forever husband. It's entirely possible that there are still "trad…

I considered trying No Paraglider for my Master Mode run, but I got too annoyed not having it even on the Great Plateau, lol. Besides, the Zora section is my favourite part of the game, and I'd hate to skip it. Still, it's a cool challenge idea! I kind of like the "no elemental armour" idea as well. It would make the cooking mechanic way more important!

Mod Note: @PurpleandRed Use characters' proper names, especially in threads started by new board members. You've been warned about this before. Also, do NOT derail this thread into a discussion of Zelda's character. There is another thread for that, where you are welcome to discuss it. This will be the only warning before infractions. I'm also going back and editing all your previous posts in this thread to use Zelda's proper name. Don't make me do it again.

  • @Michelle Great recommendations! Thanks! I'm just obeying the forum rules when I say not to publicly post links to any stories with mature ratings. It's kind of my job as a mod, lol. That said, I understand the artistic merits of stories that may have a scene or two of mature content within a longer work. As long as that's not the overall point of the story (no porn without plot), I think it will probably be okay to recommend in the way you did, letting people look it up on their own, and with a…

  • How about a classic RPG style Zelda game, where you will probably still have Link or another Hylian hero, but also heroic party members of the other races? That way you can have a game with multiple, playable heroes, without one protagonist "solving everything"? Even so, in Ocarina of Time, Link never would have been able to even *get* to Ganon's Castle without the help of the Sages, and every Sage was a member of a different race, including Gerudo. I think the OP severely underestimated the imp…

  • Quote from Galedeep: “Quote from Fluttershy: “Has there ever been a ZU Book Club? Like where one person picks a book, everyone has a month to read it, then we do a big discussion? Cuz that might be fun and it might be good motivation for me to actually read >_< ” Ages ago there was one with a (I think) fantasy genre bent. There’s been murmurs of starting one up again over the years but nothing has materialized. Maybe now is the time, though! ” I'd totally join this club! @Galedeep, as Entertainm…

  • There is an example in the canon lore of a non-Hylian achieving a heroic act: the Ancient Hero of the Gorons, who wielded the Megaton Hammer to defeat Volvagia sometime long before OoT. Darunia's son says that Darunia (and by extension himself) are descendants of the Goron Hero. He defeated Volvagia himself, with no help from Hylians or anyone else. I would say killing a fire-breathing dragon counts as being competent. Also, how would the Oocca fit into your theory? A race stated in TP to be eve…

200 million years in the future, when Octoroks rule Hyrule ... (for some context The Future is Wild)

  • I don't think exact release dates of games are all that important in discussions of character. After all, if numbers were all that important, NIntendo would give actual timeframes between games, and likely the whole "BotW takes place 10 000 years after any other game" would not be a thing, since it's so insane. I agree that it's frustrating from a storytelling perspective when Zelda has no agency. It may be the role of a constitutional monarch to be the timeless living symbol of the state (or Co…

  • @PurpleandRed Why is it that you find crying in characters to be disagreeable? Considering the circumstance in which BotW Zelda finally breaks down and cries, when all her friends and family are dead, her kingdom destroyed, it made her seem more believable, more human, than the more static Zeldas of some previous games, IMO. The King's diary in-game even stated that she did not cry when her mother died, when she was only 6 years old, but she cried then. See, there's a topic for discussion. Expla…

  • I'm honoured to tie for Best Writer with @Ruki, especially since my most notable contribution has been a fanfic that I'm taking forever to update (hey, toddlers are timesinks) and a few weird headcanons, lol. I'm surprised I got runner up for "The Staircase Leading Up" as well. Surprised anyone has read it! Maybe I will get around to posting it on Amazon one of these days. Anyway, thanks to everyone who voted, and congrats to all the other winners! You rock!

  • For the record, we do *not* discourage the discussion of *any* Legend of Zelda topic by anyone. We even encourage debate, and differing points of view. What we do *not* like is: 1. Continuously insulting a character childishly. This differs from healthy debate, in that actual, legitimate reasons for the dislike aren't discussed. i.e. "I didn't like how little Zelda had to do in TP" is far different in tone than "I hate her cuz I wuv Link and Zelda sux!" 2. Using insulting nicknames for character…

  • ^ Like this? 800 Still one of BotW's better side missions, IMO.

  • During my first playthrough, I think I used "substitute horses" more often than my registered ones. By which I mean ones I just found in the wild, used them, and left with no intention of ever registering them. Deer and bears counted as well. Damn, I wish we could have ridden the rhinos and moose in Hebra. A little more mount variety would have been nice.

  • @HeroOfTime5 I found Gorons to be very similar to the Horta, from the original series Star Trek episode, "Devil in the Dark". Both are stone-like alien beings capable of consuming rocks (Gorons more conventionally, Horta with their acid). Silicon is chemically just below Carbon on the periodic table, and has similar bonding properties with other elements, so if any lifeforms are based on another element other than Carbon, Silicon is the most likely. They're an interesting idea from Sci Fi and on…

  • Quote from HeroOfTime5: “I think the reason people get so obsessed with the races in zelda is because the Gorons have stayed basically the same design forever, so they think the other races should too. I think the answer is just that the Gorons have a simpler design that translates more clearly into multiple art styles. Perhaps, the Gorons haven't face extreme changes in living conditions that is seen with the Zoras. ” There's also the fact that geological change takes even longer than biologica…

I absolutely love your adult model for Saria!

  • ^ I have to disagree with you there, @Setras. I actually really liked Peatrice and her sidequest. It was nice that we got one other potentially romantic interest for Link in the game, rather than having ZeLink completely and unquestionably shoved down our throats. I've seen games that do that with their romantic subplots (looking at you, FFVIII), and it's not pretty. Besides, my headcanon is that SS Zelda ended up with Groose, and some of their descendants did become the Gerudo. That would mean …

  • I love how every game from ALttP onwards had NPCs who you cared about, who you felt like you were making a real difference to. It made the world feel so much more alive. These people had their own lives, their own cares separate from Link's, sometimes having nothing to do with the main quest, yet you have the option to go out of your way to help them. That in itself is the reward, IMO. Cool things like the ALttP "duck" *cough*Loftwing, the Fierce Deity's Mask, they were all nice extras, but hone…

Looks pretty cool. Not in the same league as the RTS perfection that is original Starcraft (though nothing is, not even Starcraft II), but still looks good and interesting. Is there a story mode and decent single player? Is resource gathering a thing? Have you considered applying at Blizzard?

@Guinea One of the BotW cutscenes directly mentions Link's father (a knight himself), so he had at least one living parent in the 100 years before the Calamity.

  • I finally got the courage to start a Master Mode playthrough. I found the sneaking around you had to do in the first part of DLC 2 was good practice for making it through Master Mode's Great Plateau! I only died a couple times from monsters -- mostly got nailed by the environment. And the friggin' Lynel didn't see me once! The darn thing is a White Haired Lynel too. Now I could see putting a red one, maybe a blue one up there. The White Haired one is just too much. I found the best thing to do w…

  • ^ I had a similar idea, @Aku. I forget where I mentioned it before (somewhere here on the boards), but I had the theory that the 10 000 year gap actually encompasses all of Zelda history, regardless of timeline. That the first appearance of "Calamity Ganon" as depicted on the mural in BotW is actually the first fight between Hylia and Demise, with Hylia being backed up by the Shiekah. So pre-Skyward Sword. The equal amount of time from the discovery of agriculture to today would be more appropri…

  • ALttP is one of the best games for the Super Nintendo, beat only by some of the JRPGs (Final Fantasy III/VI, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG), and Super Metroid, IMO. It's definitely a fun game, and you learn more about the world of Hyrule than you do in BotW! There's something nice about old school games, relying on text to tell a story. Kind of like, what is that old tech called again? Oh yeah! Books! Sometimes, a lot of the time, actually, fancy graphics are completely unnecessary.

One thing I've been wondering is that it's pretty much established that the Interloper War (whether it was the pre-OoT Civil War or not) did take place before OoT's timeline split. That means that the Twili and the Twilight Realm must exist in all timelines, but we've only seen them emerge in their realm in one (the Child Timeline). What do you think happened to the Twili in the other 2 canon timelines? Are they simply stuck in the Twilight Realm, or did something else happen to them?

  • Good so far, except that I don't think Link got the photography option on the Shiekah slate until after he visits Purah and gets the 'basic functions' upgrade. I always thought that the Shiekah Slate digitized Link's items too, acting as this game's "infinite bag", but hey, it's your story. Looking forward to more.

  • Maybe the Triforce interpreted his wish for "peace to return" to mean "undo the suffering Ganon had caused". In that way, both HH and the most common fan interpretation of the wish can be true. Regardless, it is heavily implied in the game that both Link's Uncle and the King of Hyrule died due to Ganon's actions, and the ending clearly shows them both safe and sound. Heck, we saw the Flute Boy turn into a tree in the Dark World, but he's back in the credits, with his grandfather listening to his…

  • I'm sorry, @PurpleandRed, but if I want to see hopeless situations, I'll check the news. Video games and fantasy are the places I go to escape the mudane and powerlessless of the real. I like happy endings and idealism, no matter how unrealistic they may appear at first glance. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Take your Game of Thrones. I'll take Lord of the Rings.

  • I think the ending was trying, for the first time in Zelda history, mind you, to protray the true power of the Triforce, and the goodness in Link's heart. The Triforce was so much more than just triangles on your collection screen - it literally had the power to change the world, and what would a pure-hearted hero like Link wish for other than for the consequences of evil to be erased? For all those who had suffered to be given a second chance? So few stories out there can pull something like th…

I've mentioned it in previous threads, but if you like AoL, you'd probably like the regular DS and 3DS game "Adventure Time: Hey Ice King? Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?" The game is basically an easier Zelda II with an Adventure Time skin. It's still a lot of fun though, especially if you're a fan of Adventure Time. I wish more games had used AoL's play style. It really is an interesting twist on both the usual Zelda formula and RPGs. Just wish it wasn't so Nintendo Hard!
