A message from our founder

Have you heard the news? Today, February 20, 2026, is the 25th anniversary of Zelda Universe! We will be celebrating our anniversary and the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda all year long.

To mark this very special occasion, we reached out to the founder of Zelda Universe, Lars Christian-Simonsen, and he prepared a message for the community.

“I can’t believe it’s been 25 years. And that Zelda Universe has been in existence for more than 60% of the Zelda series lifespan. When I started Zelda Universe, the Zelda series seemed like an ancient, everlasting part of gaming history. Never in my dreams would I have imagined that ZU would become something that’s still thriving in 2026.

Whatever I did back then has little to do with what Zelda Universe is today. The community was always the heart and soul of the site. Whenever I drop by to see what’s happening, I’m glad to see that it continues to be a community driven website. My thanks to [the ZU team] and everyone else who contributes to make sure that it exists as a gathering place for people from all walks of life who care about the beautiful adventures that are the Legend of Zelda series of games.

As for me personally, even though I moved on from Zelda Universe a long time ago, its effects on my life have been profound. Safe to say that my career path is a direct result of starting ZU all those years ago, and as recently as a couple of years ago it became the most interesting conversation point as I interviewed for a new position.

I’ve also been enjoying every new main line Zelda game throughout the years, and the series continue to be a great source of joy for me. As my son, now seven, has grown to become an avid Nintendo gamer, I’ve even had the pleasure of playing through all of the Switch releases together with him. Given my history and the significant part the Zelda series has been of my identity, that has been a particularly rewarding experience.”
