Majora’s Mask Sword Upgrades
There are three optional swords to collect in Majora’s Mask. Each one offers the player more damage output than the Kokiri Sword.
Razor Sword
Location: Mountain Smithy on Snowhead
The Razor is the first sword upgrade you can obtain. When you visit Snowhead and thaw the furnace in the Mountain Smithy, you will have the option to have the Kokiri Sword (the sword you start the game with) forged into the Razor Sword.
- Use a Fire Arrow, Hot Spring Water, or defeat the boss Goht to thaw the ice. (If you have already cleared Snowhead Temple, you will not need to complete this step.)
- Speak to Zubora and pay him 100 rupees to have him enhance your sword.
The Razor Sword will deal twice the amount of damage as the Kokiri Sword. However, its blade will dull after you’ve used it 100 times. Then, it will revert back to being the Kokiri Sword.

Gilded Sword
Location: Mountain Smithy on Snowhead
The Gilded Sword is the second upgrade form of the Kokiri Sword. Similar to the Razor Sword, you need to have the blacksmiths forge it for you.
To get the Glided Sword, you need to complete specific events at certain times during the three-day cycle:
- Defeat Goht at any point on the First Day.
- On the First Day as well, win the Goron Race to obtain the Gold Dust.
- Travel to the Mountain Smithy.
- If your sword is currently in its Kokiri Sword form, pay the blacksmiths 100 rupees to forge it into the Razor Sword.
- Give the blacksmiths the Gold Dust to forge your Razor Sword into the Gilded Sword. When you give the blacksmiths the Gold Dust, they will tell to come back in two days to receive your sword.
- Return to the Mountain Smithy on the Third Day and talk Zubora to obtain the Gilded Sword.
The Gilded Sword does the same amount of damage as the Razor Sword. The difference is that it is a permanent item and its blade will never dull.

Great Fairy’s Sword
Location: Great Fairy Fountain in Ikana Canyon
This final sword is the most powerful one in the game, dealing four times the amount of damage as the Kokiri Sword. It is also different from the other swords by being an equipable item rather than a permanent replacement for your current sword.
- Visit the Great Fairy Fountain in Ikana Canyon and speak with the Great Fairy.
- Explore the entirity of the Stower Tower Temple dungeon and collect all 15 of the Stray Fairies inside.
- Return to the Great Fairy Fountain to reunite all of the Stray Fairies and restore the Great Fairy.
- Once she is whole, she will reward you with the Great Fairy’s Sword.
NOTE: The Great Fairy’s Sword is also twice the size of the Kokiri Sword. This makes it a two-handed weapon, which means Link cannot use his shield when wielding the sword.
