The Wind Waker Guides

Chapter 6: To the Forest Haven

1.1 The Wind’s Requiem

After defeating Gohma you are teleported back to the beach where you first arrived. Your next destination is the Forest Haven, far to the south. Before you can climb on board the King of Red Lions you need to make the wind blow to the south.

To learn the Wind’s Requiem, go to the shrine behind the island. Stand next to the monument that is still intact and take out the Wind Waker. Play the notes correctly to learn the song. Use it now to set the wind blowing southward.

1.2 Sailing to the Forest Haven

Climb into your boat and start sailing toward the south. On the way, you will meet a Fishman. Every island has a Fishman swimming somewhere nearby who will fill in the Sea Chart for that island if you throw him some bait,

Finding the Fishmen and building up a more complete Sea Chart as you go along will make the Great Sea easier to navigate later.

On your way to the Forest Haven you should pass an island that is erupting lava, then one that is triangular and lastly one shaped like a bomb.

1.3 Arriving at the Forest Haven

You will eventually arrive at the Forest Haven. When you reach land, head uphill.

Beware the Boko Baba plants hiding in the long grass. When they lick their lips, they’re about to try and eat you, which will do loads of damage. Cut through their stalks to finish them off.

Stand on the ledge opposite the waterfall and throw the Grappling Hook at the branch overhead. Aim to land on the island in the middle of the river. Stop swinging and change direction if you are at a bad angle.

Jump across to the highest ledge you can reach. Look up to find another branch that you can attach the Grappling Hook to. You may need to defeat the Octorok in the distance first, to stop it spitting rocks at you. Swing over to the entrance to the Forest Haven and go inside.

1.4 The Great Deku Tree/Enchanted Leaf

Wade through the stream to meet the Great Deku Tree. When you get closer, an infestation of Chu Chus appears on his face. Roll into the side of the Deku Tree to shake the Chu Chus loose, then defeat them all.

After talking to the Great Deku Tree, the Koroks of the Forest Haven appear. One is missing however, so you are asked to go to the Forbidden Woods to rescue him. The Deku Tree provides an enchanted leaf to help you, but you must climb up into his branches to retrieve it.

Find the purple Baba Bud near the Deku Tree and run at it to jump inside. This Baba Bud will launch you high into the air. Rotate yourself to face the next Baba Bud and push forward in order to reach it. Don’t worry about falling and taking damage: you won’t take any when you jump out of a Baba Bud. Later on you will also notice that they restore a little bit of your magic power while you are inside.

Use the first four Baba Buds to reach one of the Deku Tree’s branches. Attach the Grappling Hook to the branch overhead and swing to the next Baba Bud. More Baba Buds curve around to the right. At the end is the branch where the Deku Leaf is sitting.

1.5 Heading to the Forbidden Woods

Equip the Deku Leaf and look for the Korok who just called out to you. Jump into the air and pull out the Deku Leaf to glide toward the exit. You can only fly for as long as you have power in your Magic Meter and you lose altitude gradually, but this ledge is well within your reach. Cut the grass to find Magic Jars, which replenish your Magic Meter, then go outside.

Fly toward the giant tree stump between the two main islands. Refill your Magic Meter and change the wind’s direction to the northwest.

Out here, the wind will affect how far you can fly. Always put the wind at your back with the Wind’s Requiem before attempting to fly outside. In this case, that means the wind should be blowing to the southwest.

The entrance to the Forbidden Woods is higher up than your current elevation. The only way to reach it is to fly into the updraught that is circling around your platform. You need to factor in a few seconds traveling time and start gliding before the updraught reaches you. You can easily steer into the updraught if you time it a little early

If the Peahat enemies hit you in mid-air, you will fall out of the sky. Tap whichever button you have the Deku Leaf assigned to and it will create a puff of air to stun monsters that get too close while you are flying.

Touch down on the precipice and go inside the Forbidden Woods.
