Equipment Upgrades

by on November 20, 2019

You can upgrade some inventory items and Adventure Pouch items at the Scrap Shop in the Skyloft Bazaar. Bring Treasures and Rupees to Gondo to permanently add new features to applicable items.

This is an optional feature that is never required to continue the main quest, but the upgrades add useful new features to items. In particular, upgrading Shields makes them far less likely to break and is recommended for most players.

Wooden Shield

Shield upgrades increase the number of hits they can take before breaking. Wooden shields are weak to fire, so avoid using them in Eldin Volcano or while fighting enemies with fire attacks.

Instructor Owlan will give you one free Wooden Shield if you speak to him after receiving the Goddess Sword near the beginning of the game.

  • Monster Claw x 2
  • Tumbleweed x 2

  • Rupees x 50

Iron Shield

Shield upgrades increase the number of hits they can take before breaking. Iron shields are weak to electricity, so avoid using them in the Lanayru Desert or while fighting enemies with electric attacks.

Sacred Shield

Shield upgrades increase the number of hits they can take before breaking. Sacred shields are not weak to any attacks, and they automatically repair themselves over time. However, they have less overall durability and can take fewer attacks in a short time than other types of shields.

Upgrading the Slingshot to the Scattershot lets you hit a larger area at once. The Scattershot can be charged to fire several Deku Seeds at once to hit a larger area while still only using one seed from your inventory.

It is helpful if you struggle with aiming at small enemies or while fighting large groups of small enemies (like groups of Keese).
