Optional Item: Hawkeye

The Hawkeye is one of those items that you don’t need to complete the game but having it sure makes your quest easier. You can obtain it immediately after completing the Goron Mines, but you’ll have to complete a short side quest first.

The Hawkeye acts as a pair of binoculars and when paired with the bow, it allows you to zoom in and shoot with pinpoint accuracy. It can’t be combined with bomb arrows but, let’s be honest, who needs that kind of accuracy when things are exploding anyway?

1.0Obtaining the Hawkeye

After you complete the Goron Mines, Malo and Talo’s Bow minigame becomes available. You will have to beat this minigame before you can buy the Hawkeye. Luckily, when you complete the Goron Mines, you will warp to Kakariko Village where this minigame takes place.

‘C’mon, PLEASE! Just show me how you shoot a bow.”

Walk over to the newly-reopened bomb shop and speak to the Goron on the ground for a quick lift up to the roof. Once on the roof, take the path up to the watch tower and climb to the top of it. Talo is on the lookout; talk to him, and he’ll want to see you practice with the bow. Say yes

Target 1 An easy first target. It's on the ground in front of you.

Target 2 Above Malo Mart, but still pretty easy.

Target 3 This one might take a few tries. But be careful; whatever you do, don’t shoot Talo. Nothing will happen if you do, but that kind of behavior is very naughty indeed.

The Hawkeye isn’t needed to beat the game but it has its uses. It’s great for looking around large areas, such as Lake Hylia, or when trying to find golden bugs. When combined with the bow, it comes in handy when killing the Moblins in the Hidden Village.

Or maybe you’re the type of player who likes to admire the scenery. In which case, have a blast; the Hawkeye will hold a special place in your inventory.
