1.1Journey to Clock Town

The Skull Kid has stolen your horse, Epona, and the Ocarina of Time. Your first task is to track him down. Enter the cave in front of you, then climb and jump across the tree stumps. When you reach the end of the path, you will fall into a large hole. You will land on a Deku Flower and immediately be confronted by Skull Kid. Skull Kid will then cast a spell that transforms you into a Deku Scrub.

Continue to chase the Skull Kid through the tunnel until you reach a Deku Flower. The door leading forward is on a cliff that you cannot reach without flying. Dive into the Deku Flower near the edge of the cliff to fly across the room and continue forward. If you do not make it to the doorway on your first attempt, there are additional Deku Flowers on the ground to help you reach the door.

The next area contains four small platforms; each one contains a Deku Flower. Use the Deku Flowers to fly toward the exit. Along the way, you can pick up a treasure chest that contains Deku Nuts. Before you leave the area, Tatl will show you a strange looking statue. The statue is a story element that will be mentioned later, but otherwise serves no purpose. Walk past the statue and enter the next area to arrive at the Clock Tower.Follow the path until you reach the exit; you will be confronted by the Happy Mask Salesman before you are able to leave.

“You’ve met with a terrible fate, haven’t you?”

The Happy Mask Salesman tasks you with confronting the Skull Kid to reclaim the Ocarina of Time, which the Skull Kid has stolen from you, and Majora’s Mask, which the Skull Kid has stolen from the Happy Mask Salesman. In return, the Happy Mask Salesman promises to return you to your original form.

However, the Happy Mask Salesman will only remain in Clock Town for three days. You must find the Skull Kid and reclaim both the Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask within this time frame.

Leave the Clock Tower to enter South Clock Town. You arrive at 6:00am on the First Day.

1.2Rescue the Great Fairy

Your first objective upon arriving in Clock Town is to speak with the Great Fairy in North Clock Town. Unfortunately, if you visit the Great Fairy Fountain in North Clock Town now, you will find that she has been attacked by the Skull Kid and a piece of the Great Fairy, a Stray Fairy, is lost in Clock Town. If you haven’t wasted any time, the Stray Fairy can be found at the Laundry Pool. The entrance to the Laundry Pool is at the southwest corner of South Clock Town. You can see the entrance to the Laundry Pool from the doors of the Clock Tower. Travel south and up the ramp to enter the Laundry Pool.

At the Laundry Pool, you will see the Stray Fairy hovering above the water. Deku Scrubs cannot swim, but they can hop across the water. Hop across the small pond to collect the Stray Fairy. Then, leave the Laundry Pool and travel north through South Clock Town to reach North Clock Town.

The Great Fairy’s Fountain is located on the west side of North Clock Town; it looks like a cave at the top of a hill. Enter the Great Fairy’s Fountain and approach the fountain. The Stray Fairy you found will join the other Stray Fairies, and the Great Fairy will be reborn. The Great Fairy will thank you and reward you with Magic Power and the Bubble Blast attack. Bubble Blast is a long range projectile that you can use to attack enemies.

1.3Enter the Bombers’ Hideout

Upon leaving the Great Fairy’s Fountain, you will see Jim, a young boy with a red cap, blowing darts at a large balloon. Stand near Jim, and use your new Bubble Blast attack to pop the large balloon. The explosion will startle Jim; speak to him and accept his offer to play hide-and-seek to learn the password to the hideout of his gang, the Bombers Secret Society of Justice.

“The Bombers Secret Society of Justice forever!”

When the game of hide-and-seek begins, you will have until 6:00am to find the five boys hiding throughout Clock Town. Because of the time limit, it is best to start the game early in the morning. However, locating the boys is not enough to win the game. When discovered, the boys will run away; you must catch all five to win the game. The easiest way to catch them is to use your Bubble Blast attack to stun them momentarily.

When you have caught all five members of the Bombers gang, they will teach you the password to enter their hideout. The password is different each time, but is always a combination of the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Make a note of the password; you need the password to progress. If you forget the password, speak to one of the Bombers gang members around Clock Town to hear it again. The entrance to the Bombers’ Hideout is in the northeast corner of East Clock Town. The entrance is guarded by the last member of the Bombers, a small boy wearing a yellow cap. Speak to him and enter the password to gain entrance to the Bombers’ Hideout.

1.4Find the Moon Tear

The Bombers’ Hideout is an underground tunnel that connects Clock Town with the Astral Observatory. When you enter, travel straight by hopping across the water and follow the path as it turns. You will encounter one Big Skulltula as you travel through the tunnel; it can be defeated with a Bubble Blast.

When you reach a large room, the path is blocked by a large balloon. Use a Bubble Blast to destroy the balloon, and then climb the ladder to enter the Astral Observatory. Follow the winding staircase and speak to Professor Shikashi, who is gazing through a large telescope. When asked, accept his invitation to look through the telescope yourself.

Your goal is to find Skull Kid, who Shikashi suggests is hanging out near the Clock Tower. Zoom in on the top of the Clock Tower to find the Skull Kid. As you watch, a stone, called a Moon Tear, will fall from the threatening-looking Moon that is growing ever closer to Clock Town. The Moon Tear will land outside the Astral Observatory.Walk outside the observatory using the nearby door and pick up the Moon Tear. Now that you have located the Skull Kid, your next objective is to confront him on top of the Clock Tower.

Trade the Moon Tear to the Business Scrub in South Clock Town.

Unfortunately, the door leading to the Clock Tower only opens once a year (conveniently, at midnight on the Third Day), and is on a high ledge that a Deku Scrub cannot reach on foot.

Leave the Astral Observatory the same way you arrived, and travel back through the Bombers’ Hideout to return to Clock Town. Travel to South Clock Town and approach the yellow Deku Flower that is near the path that leads to West Clock Town. When you approach, a Business Scrub will stop you and claim that the Deku Flower is his private property.

However, he will sell you the Deku Flower if you give him a Moon Tear. Give the Moon Tear to the Business Scrub to receive the Land Title Deed.

guide-mm-ch1-016With the Land Title Deed, you can now use the Deku Flower in South Clock Town to fly to the door leading to the top of the Clock Tower. The Clock Tower door will not open until midnight, 12:00am, on the Third Day. Depending on how long it took you to complete the other tasks, you may have anywhere from a few real-world minutes to two full in-game days remaining. You can spend this time exploring Clock Town, or you can skip time quickly by dancing with a scarecrow.

There are two dancing scarecrows. One is found in the Astral Observatory; the second is inside the Trading Post in West Clock Town. Agree to dance with a scarecrow to skip forward to the next day or night. You can dance with the scarecrow until you reach the night of the Third Day, but then you must wait a few minutes to reach midnight.

1.5Confront the Skull Kid

When the Clock Tower door opens at midnight, use the Deku Flower in South Clock Town to fly to the platform. When you land, you can pick up a Piece of Heart. Climb the stairs to reach the top of the Clock Tower and confront the Skull Kid. Using the power of Majora’s Mask, the Skull Kid will begin to force the Moon to crash into Clock Town. You have only a few minutes until the town is destroyed.

“Just look above you… if it’s something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!”

guide-mm-ch1-017

Use a Bubble Blast to attack the Skull Kid. One hit will cause him to drop the Ocarina of Time. When he drops the Ocarina, pick it up. When you pick up the Ocarina of Time, you will see a flashback and learn the Song of Time. When the flashback ends, play the Song of Time … and you will travel back in time three days.

1.6Learn the Song of Healing

Now that you have reclaimed the Ocarina of Time, and time has reset, return to the Clock Tower and speak with the Happy Mask Salesman. Upon realizing that you have the Ocarina of Time, the Happy Mask Salesman will teach you a second song: the Song of Healing.

3DS Remake OnlyThe Happy Mask Salesman will give you the Bombers' Notebook before you leave the Clock Tower.

The Song of Healing will lift the Skull Kid’s curse and return you to your original Hylian (human) form. In addition, the power to transform into a Deku Scrub is contained within a mask, the Deku Mask. You are given the mask as a memento. Wearing the mask will cause you to transform into a Deku Scrub, and you will return to Hylian form when the mask is removed.

After you learn the Song of Healing, the Happy Mask Salesman will realize that you have not kept your half of the bargain: the Skull Kid still has Majora’s Mask. He will then tell you more of the legend of Majora’s Mask and implore you to stop the Skull Kid and return Majora’s Mask to him.
