Five years ago today, Skyward Sword was released on the Wii system for all Zelda fans to enjoy. My love for Skyward Sword has always been intense, and seeing this fanart earlier this week put a huge smile on my face, so I knew I had to write about it. This artwork was created by Edalie-chan, an extremely talented artist who has produced fanart for countless amounts of fandoms. What I love most about this piece is the beautiful shades of pink and purple that are used to illustrate Zelda and her Loftwing. In the game, Zelda and her Loftwing share a strong connection, and that connection is very apparent in this piece. The reincarnation of Zelda in Skyward Sword is one of my favorite Zeldas, and I just love the way that the ribbons in her hair match the wings of her Loftwing. Even the Loftwing’s eyes and Zelda’s hair are a similar shade of golden yellow.
When I was younger and playing Skyward Sword, I always dreamed about having my own Loftwing and flying fearlessly through the air.
I always loved the connection that each character has with their Loftwing, and it blew my mind that with just a whistle Link or Zelda could call their birds and they would swoop right underneath them. Loftwings were one of my favorite creatures in Skyward Sword, even though it was sometimes a struggle to navigate their path with a Wii controller. On this five year anniversary, make sure to give your Wii system some love and relive the magical adventure as Link with his trusty Loftwing by his side.
