For members of the fledgling Nintendo Account in Japan — the successor to the shuttered Club Nintendo — it will be a happy time indeed the next time their birthday rolls around. If members link their Nintendo Network ID (NNID) by the 24th of their birthday month and agree to receive promotional emails from Nintendo, they will receive discount codes in their email.
Given the NNID requirement, it’s likely these codes will be good towards Nintendo eShop purchases. When combined with the current promotion of a 100 Yen eShop credit for every 1000 Yen spent, a Japanese gamer could score big. There’s no word yet on whether or not this promotion will continue once Nintendo Account goes international, but it’s a safe bet Nintendo would want to encourage players to spend their birthday money in the eShop.
