Recently, Nintendo held an interview with a certain popular recurring character in the Zelda franchise. That’s right — the Happy Mask Salesman has seemed to have left Termina and Hyrule altogether and found his way into our world for a brief interview. The Happy Mask Salesman, whom is known for his appearances in Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Oracle of Ages shared a few interesting facts with us in his interview with MariChan.

The Happy Mask Salesman provides a few humorous responses and keeps the interview entertaining for the readers. By doing this, it takes a different approach than most interviews and keeps it entertaining for readers.  He is asked how long the game had been in development, in which he responded, “In this world, it would have been three years or so.” He then goes on and explains how certain things have changed in the game: “The bank has moved, for example, and there are many posters around.”

Its not until the end of the interview that one of the most interesting hints is dropped. Without even being directly asked, the salesman says “My, my… I’ve certainly been appearing all over the place these past few days! If this keeps going, maybe it wouldn’t be a stretch to expect me pop up in a new Zelda game, too…? Ho, ho, ho… I’ve got some new masks, too, if you’d like to try them on… If I do make an appearance, I’m sure everyone will experience such happiness! Believe in your strengths… Believe…. Ho, ho, ho…”

The full interview can be found here. Now, this can be interpreted in different ways.  Nintendo has been known for dropping subtle hints lately, such as Majora’s Mask appearing in A Link Between Worlds. They have also mentioned several times how while working on multiple games in the series at once, one idea from a game may influence something in a subsequent Zelda game. Could it be possible that we may see the return of the Happy Mask Salesman in Zelda U or a future handheld Zelda game?

I think it’s important to look at that seemingly unrelated part at the end of his quote: “believe in your strengths…”. It seems that most everyone is focusing on the obvious (he might/probably will be in the next Zelda game) and missing the subtle parts.

Perhaps the next game that he appears in (Zelda U or a maybe even a new 3DS zelda?) focuses heavily on strength gauntlets, or the Triforce of Power?

    • Krauzen

You’re overthinking it. That quote related to the power of the masks in Majora’s mask and what you could achieve with that power

    • Ryan Haynes

That was a quote from the game. It’s something he says everytime you talk to him.

You’re underthinking it but you’re almost there. “Believe in your strengths…” refers to the strength gauntlets, but gauntlets start with a “G” which stands for Gold and the the Triforce is Gold but the Triforce starts with a “T” just like the word “Titan” and there’s a game called “Titanfall” so if you minus the “Titan” it means fall which means the new Zelda for Wii U will be out this Fall. Pretty obvious if you don’t think about it.

      • you fool, it means it belongs to the Fall/Decline timeline.

  • CEObrainz

I’ve said this time and time again, but seeing this doesn’t help subside my want for a third instalment in the Hero of Time trilogy. To be fair I’d love for this game to be fit sometime before Twilight Princess and if there really is the inclusion of the HMS then that idea seems really plausible. However as I think I’ve also said before we may just see him as a character in Hyrule Warriors (perhaps some surprise DLC or patch that awards him to the players).

  • Legoverlord

I think Happy Mask Salesman will be in a Traveling Merchants DLC for Hyrule Warriors. Of course that would include Beedle.
