For many, Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda that they experienced. For everyone (at the time), it was their first experience playing Zelda in a 3D world. It opened up brand new gameplay avenues and brought the series to even higher heights than it had already reached. I remember being a 12 year old, being entranced by this brand new iteration of Hyrule.

New gameplay wasn’t the only facet that Ocarina of Time brought to the Zelda series — the music played a much larger role in the game as well, and while some themes were taken from previous games, there were also a myriad of new ones to be found. When booting up Ocarina of Time for the first time, I couldn’t help but be whisked away into this new Hyrule by the main theme of the game. It gave off a somber and reflective tone, perfectly fitting for the game, and will always be one of my favorite themes in all of Zelda. That is why today’s pick for Music Monday is “Zelda Ocarina of Time – Title Theme (piano)” by xxwhispers.

I love that theme song. I always let it play through when I turn on the game. This piano version sounds great.

You’re an older fan like me, so you remember the NES and SNES days pretty well. OoT changed everything. The opening is so beautiful. Every time I boot the game up, I watch it and just listen, taking in the beauty of Hyrule.

Oh, yeah. I like the games with the control stick instead of the plus shaped pad better. I played and loved the 1st and 3rd Zelda games and the 1st 4 Mario games a lot, but starting with Ocarina and Mario 64, I felt more in my element.
