The Nintendo 3DS has seemingly hit its stride with the release of Super Smash Bros., as the game has been breaking records after only two months on the market, becoming the top selling handheld title for 2014. The flagship Nintendo franchise has seen incredible success on the portable market, becoming the company’s 10th title to sell over 1 million copies.
Other titles have seen seen similar success, including two Legend of Zelda releases, A Link Between Worlds and Ocarina of Time 3D, which have sold 1.06 million and 1.41 million copies respectively. With the impending launch of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the successful streak of the Nintendo 3DS should undoubtedly continue.
The Wii U has also seen its fair share of success and is predicted to do fairly well with the upcoming pairing of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and the Amiibo figurines, both releasing right before the holiday season. Along with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and a brand new Legend of Zelda title, Nintendo has a lot more in store for the beginning of the new year, leaving fans excited for what’s to come.
