In a post on Miiverse, Eiji Aonuma has stated that Majora’s Mask 3D has been in development since 2011, right after Ocarina of Time 3D was finished. While Nintendo wanted to reveal the title sooner, they were waiting until the time was finally right to unveil it. Aonuma assured fans that Nintendo has made the gameplay smoother, though without taking away the uniqueness of the world that Majora’s Mask has to offer. He also revealed that he would talk about what has been changed in the game as soon as the release date inches closer, so stay tuned!

    I like that they spend time developing it. I just find it a bit odd they used so much time considering original MM was finished in about a year. Anyways, really looking forward to this. MM is one of my favorite Zelda games.

    • Jordan Ivor Madick

      mabey they added more contents who knows

      • Brad Wood

        probably not. not much was added to the 3ds port of oot

    • KDChronos

      I think they were more Focused in ALBW instead of MM, and also if was Grezzo, i think they do some other stuff for nintendo like some Mii Plaza games

  • Merylas

    I honestly don’t believe this that much. Considering how much Moonfall has raged and the fact that they specifically asked what we wanted, then preceded to create an entire new 3DS Zelda Game, remade another game for the Wii U, dealed with a third party to make a new spin-off, and got major progress on a new, HD Wii U Title before mentioning it… either that Miiverse post is a lie or Nintendo has some really questionable business strategies.

    • True Davad

      Have you considered that they had to make changes, and that they didn’t want to reveal it too far in advance?! I think your post is kind of ignorant honestly. They had a lot of other projects going on and they didn’t want to reveal it too far in advance of the release. He said in the article above that Nintendo wanted to reveal it sooner, but he waited till the time was right. That was perfectly reasonable strategy on his part considering that they don’t want too much hype to build. If they reveal it too soon fans will wonder why it is taking so long and get angry. You have to see it from the other point of view before bashing someone or a company.

    This further supports my theory of them adding a Master Quest to Majora’s Mask.How awesome would that be?

    • DekuMask

      That’s what i was thinking. If it does have a master quest, i would be so happy! Also hoping for a Majora’s Mask New 3DS.

  • DEGLTOONS

    Develop MM -> 1 year
    Remake MM -> 4 years
    … Isn’t this kind of weird???

    • Justin Graham

      It’s unusual, but I’d rather they take their time to properly remake the game than just do a quick port.

      • DEGLTOONS

        Yeah, of course. But what were they doing all the Time?

        • Justin Graham

          No idea. But taking more time to polish the remake can’t hurt.

    • Phazite

      I thought it sounded weird at first, but now that I think about it… I doubt they had the whole team focusing on MM the entire span of 4 years. They probably started planning back in 2011, but didn’t start the hard work until ALBW was finished.

    It is a little strange that it’s been in development for 4 years, even though the original took 1 year. However, development isn’t just making the game, it’s all the other parts, like the whole idea of it and if it would actually work. Since OoT3D, they’ve been making Skyward Sword, ALBW, WWHD, and the new one. Even if they started making MM3D in 2011, they’ve had all these other projects, so it would be hard for them to put all their time into Majora’s Mask. That, and they probably didnt even start actually making the game until at least 2012 or 2013.

    That being said, if this has been in devolpment all this time, I would’ve liked for it to have come out sooner than this.

    Hopefully the lengthened time means more content and fixed bugs from the original. I do hope this game releases with one of the new 3DS’s, that way I finally have a reason to buy the handheld.
