Up until now, Nintendo has kept relatively separate from the lucrative world of smartphone apps, much to the dismay of many of its fans. However, President Satoru Iwata recently announced at a press conference that a Mii-centric app is in the works and is slated for release sometime next year.

Originally, the company had hoped to release its first venture into the smartphone industry in 2014. Iwata’s main concern was that since there were a myriad of ideas surrounding how the app should look and perform, that releasing it too early would be a mistake.

Nintendo’s main reason for its involvement in the app stores would ideally not be about a business plan, but more about the connection it shares with their consumers. The details of the app itself are sparse, but we know it will revolve around the social Miiverse. Nintendo’s first step into the app world will surely not be a small one, and will undoubtedly be the start of a new adventure for fans.

  • I would personally love that. Don’t even need to know what it is I would get it. lol

I probably won’t be allowed to get t on my app store but I can see the mobile web version of the Miiverse on my phone’s Internet Explorer, so I’ll probably be O.K..
