There’s much to look forward to in Mario Kart 8‘s upcoming DLC, with Link and Villager being added as extra playable characters. Sadly, the game will not support either of these characters’ Amiibo, despite having functionality for other Mario figures.

Nintendo Force’s Editor-in-Chief, Lucas Thomas, kindly shared the official Amiibo compatibility list via Twitter.

It seems a bit of a wasted opportunity, but at least we can still use the Link Amiibo in Hyrule Warriors soon enough.

I’m guessing it will once the DLC is announced and out. If they announced Link’s amiibo as being compatible with MK8, that then pretty much forces them into, at latest, a November 21 Release Date for Mario Kart DLC. Notice they don’t associate Zelda and Luigi with HW and MK8, probably because they’re focusing on Wave 1 and what they’ll be able to do at release. Idk… I just don’t believe that they would specifically keep characters who can be compatible out. People are already cautious about buying amiibos, so to not include their compatibility whenever they can seems a bit off.

I apologize that I don’t keep up with every single event on the planet. I do not watch Nintendo Direct, as I don’t feel I need to. As everything revealed ends up mentioned on the internet sooner of later regardless.

A new NFC figurine line (think Skylanders or Disney Infinity) that Nintendo is producing. The first line will be for characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but a selection of those figurines will be made compatible with other games. in the case of Hyrule Warriors, the Link Amiibo figure will be compatible, though what that compatibility allows for, Nintendo hasn’t said.
