Nintendo has recently opened pre-orders for the hotly anticipated range of NFC figures known as Amiibo. Each toy is priced at $12.99, and there will be 12 characters available at launch: Link, Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Villager, Fox, Kirby, Marth, Wii Fit Trainer, Samus and Pikachu.

It seems that the Princess Zelda and Pit figures (present in the image above with the other 12) won’t be available in the first wave, but considering “Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be the first game to support Amiibo” according to Nintendo, it seems likely that the figures won’t be too far off from the game’s release later this year.

There is already a strong indication of Amiibo’s popularity in Amazon’s list of best sellers in the video game category, as many of the figures have made the chart. The Link toy leads the pack as the most popular, currently placed tenth (having previously dropped from an impressive spot at no. 3), and Mario and Samus also reached the top 20.

While the regular 3DS can support Amiibo with the use of a peripheral, it has been recently announced that the New 3DS has built-in NFC technology.

You can order your Amiibo now on Amazon US. There appears to be no pre-order listings just yet for Europe and Austrailia, but we’ll keep you updated.
