A user on NeoGAF recently shared a photo of some pre-order packaging of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS from Japan, which showed what looked like a ton of technical information on the game. Though it’s obviously presented in Japanese, fortunately GoNintendo shared a comprehensive translation of this image.

It tells us that the downloadable version of the game is 2.1GB in size (or 17,300 Blocks). It also confirms StreetPass support with a mini-game titled “StreetPass Battle”, though there are currently no more details beyond that.

Given the use of the word “Battle”, my guess would be that each StreetPass hit you receive will allow you to fight against another player’s customised character, perhaps earning yourself a new trophy if you win. What do you think, readers?

2 gbs that’s it?? i thought it’d be bigger in file size

    • Jeromy Teeples

Ninty knows how to keep things small.

      • mrman1

ps2 games are only a gig so yeah this seems pretty standard for a game on a handheld.

      • Soeroah

Seriously. They are truly masters of economising space.

I mean, Mew exists because the original Pokemon games had 100 bytes of free space left over; enough to implement a Pokemon, but not to make it obtainable.

I think the crown symbol for getting a certain number of lives in one of the Mario games was put in because they had just enough room for one more bit of art, too.

Then there was ALTTP, which was so packed they had to have Link’s uncle trail off as he was talking to Link, since there was no more room to finish his sentence.

        • doubleO7

That is the first time I’ve heard that explanation for why Mew is unobtainable. Mew was never planned to be in the game to begin with and was secretly added last minute by a dev who noticed there was enough space for one more Pokemon.

Given that, it just seems like common sense that it was unobtainable in-game through normal means. It wasn’t intentionally left unobtainable because of space issues, it was never meant to be seen, no one even knew about it except the dev that added it. Mew was only officially acknowledged and offered at events after people started encountering it through glitches.

          • Soeroah

Hm, that’s weird, I can’t find where I read what I said about Mew.

I knew he was added as a ‘secret’ right at the end of development, but I only said the thing about space requirements because I was sure I had read that it was added because there was just enough space for one more Pokemon, but not enough to make it obtainable (even though it wasn’t meant to be obtainable in the first place).

The Wii U version is bound to be much bigger, especially with those HD textures.

  • shigeru

sooo will the multiplayer be multi-cartridge based or one cartridge is enough for 4 people?

    • mrman1

every person that wants to play will need a cartridge, so you will need a cartridge per person.

      • shigeru

well thats a bummer :/ what if you have brothers and sisters who have a 3ds and also want to play smash? you got to buy multiple smashes? :/ that really sucks :/

  • Ryan Haney

So you can customize characters and move them to the Wii U version. That explains the previous pic of the day that showed the Wii U button on the 3DS menu.
P.S. Did y’all see today’s pic of the day with ZSS in Daisy Dukes?

    • VladNorris

It’s the suit she uses in the credits of Fusion -_-

      • mrman1

you my friend are the first person ive seen to know that, well done.

        • Ryan Haney

Well, he said it in the description on the pic of the day, so…

          • Actually, he said it was the Zero Suit from Zero Mission, which in the last segment of the game you need to traverse a map as Samus without her armor.

          • doubleO7

Well, the orange variant is from the ending of Zero Mission. The blue from Fusion’s ending. They’re not playable outfits in those games.

    • CEObrainz

SO ZSS has two sets of skins like Wario in Brawl? I like that Sakurai is giving more options to the characters and all, but the only thing I really want to know at this point is the Wii U exclusive mode that will hopefully rival Smash Run in creativity.

    • Alek Fleischer

Why does Samus wear shorts? Because they’re comfy and easy to wear!

  • YamadaDesigns

is it just me or is it a little weird that pikachu and yoshi are sticking out of their boxes?

    • CEObrainz

That seems like a very Nintendo-like thing to do, it’s the same with Link and his Master Sword in the same picture.
