Lana is the newest entrant in the Zelda franchise. With her cheerful smile and spunky attitude, she shows off her magical abilities in this new trailer for Hyrule Warriors. Officially titled “The White Sorceress”, Lana uses her Book of Sorcery to battle enemies and summon magical blocks and barriers in order to fend off her foes. While we previously posted the Japanese version of the trailer, this new version from Nintendo of America gives us an official translation of her title and the name for her weapon of choice.

As an original playable character created just for Hyrule Warriors, what will Lana add to the the already populous Zelda universe? It will be interesting to see what role Lana will be playing in the highly anticipated Wii U title, as she is shown on the box art for the game and appears to play a crucial role in the plot of the game.

Oh my god, I think I have a new favorite female character for the Zelda series now 😛

She also has such a strong Final Fantasy charm about her too, I love it XD

    • JaidynReiman

She’s ok. I’m iffy on her. I don’t mind Lana too much, I’d just like her to fit more into Zelda lore. If they don’t do that, then I just see her as wasted potential and wish that she’s the only “original” hero character in the game (since there’s so many great ZELDA characters to draw from).

      • Zelda Fan Guy

Seeing as she’s a sorceress, she may be somehow connected to the witch in A Link Between Worlds, maybe her daughter or something, then blessed by Nayru as others have mentioned she may be the incarnation of her, maybe she just has access to Nayru’s powers.

Either way I’m sure we’ll find more lore behind her at some point 🙂

  • Kaillee

Her overly anime look doesnt really fit with the zelda scheme I dont think

    • Ameowlia Singapura

I agree, I’m pretty disappointed with her look as it is way to anime and Final Fantasy looking which doesn’t tie in to the Zelda Universe.

      • Justin Graham

This is far less Final Fantasy and far more Warriors. There are a number of Warriors-esque influences and elements in her design, which I find fitting given the nature of the collaboration.

  • Joe Dean

i like the move set but if she is an incarnation of Nayru then I think they could’ve made her less child like(i.e. the ‘cheezu’ pose), the barrier blocks are hardcore though.

    • Morgan

I’m not sure she is an incarnation of Nayru…but if she is, it would be interesting if she is as playful as she seems to be. those Japanese are huge on fan service! lol.

      • Joe Dean

It was just a thought really, seeing as her main thing is barriers, and nayru’s thing is force fields.. Also the name similarity between lanayru and lana

        • Joe Dean

Lanayru being One of three dragons in skyward sword

          • Deva Ashera

It was also first a province in Twilight Princess, at least in order of game releases.

          • Joe Dean

You raise a good point, I really hope they link the references!

          • Joe Dean

            Oh man.. pun alert

            ‘Link’ the references xD

      • JaidynReiman

I’m really thinking she is, and I can really see a variation of Nayru as being really playful. Lana’s name sounds clearly to be based on “Lanayru” plus she fights with barrier magic.

Yeah, Zelda uses Nayru’s Love in one of her combos (along with Farore’s Wind and Din’s Fire, a clear nod to Zelda’s SSB moveset), but this is a moveset based entirely around barriers, and they even have a diamond symbol on them similar to Nayru’s Love.

  • Ryan Haney

I’m curious to see how you control all those moves.

  • Akhaten

it’s something i know i’ll have to get over but am i the only one who thinks that all of the characters sound too vocally japanese? i guess i’m just used to the semi-accentless grunts :/

  • Loki_GFS

Yeah… still not into it… she has some awesome powers and combos, but I don’t feel like playing as her, she didn’t gave me the same feeling I had when I saw the other characters fight…

    • JaidynReiman

Probably because Zelda fans really just want to play as existing Zelda characters. Even Cia and Valga are more interesting because they’re based on Zelda bosses, and I’d imagine we’ll be seeing things like Valga creating a fire dragon serpent and Cia splitting into four for some of their attacks (they are enemies, but I’m pretty sure they’ll be unlockable in other modes).

  • heroofmasks

i dont mind her im interested oddly im interested in all characters except midna im srry but i mostly hated midna in tp shell be the last character i play as in hyryule warriors unless they make tingle a playable character shudder then shell be the 2nd to last

  • Tyler

While she does look fun to play as, Lana is the least Zelda related character to appear in a Zelda game, even if it is a spinoff.
