Nintendo were already doing a superb job of selling me on Mario Kart 8 (as if the words “Mario Kart” in the title alone weren’t enough), but now they’ve gone a step further in their promotion for the upcoming racer.

Should you buy Mario Kart 8, at retail or via the eShop, and register it with Club Nintendo, you can net yourself a free download from a selection of Wii U games. The promotion is available to fans in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia, though the range of games available in each location differs. For those of you who don’t yet have Wind Waker HD, then you may be relieved to hear that you can get some free Zelda wherever you live.

US and Canadian customers can receive one of:

  • New Super Mario Bros.  U
  • Pikmin 3
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
  • Wii Party U

While UK and Australian customers can grab one of::

  • Nintendo Land
  • New Super Mario Bros. U
  • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  • Game & Wario
  • Pikmin 3
  • The Wonderful 101
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
  • Sonic Lost World
  • Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
  • Wii Party U

You must register the code between May 30 and July 31, and you should receive your download by August 31.

If you’ve yet to buy a Wii U, there are also a number of different highly tempting Mario Kart 8 bundles (such as the US Deluxe Set, or the UK-exclusive Mario and Luigi Premium Packs, among others) that will also allow you to participate in the promotion.

That is pretty darn awesome! I am definitely taking them up on this offer. I haven’t had a new Mario platformer since Super Mario Galaxy.

“(as if the words “Mario Kart” in the title alone weren’t enough)” I agree 100%.

If you live in the UK, it’s possible to get this specific Mario Kart 8 bundle from Tesco for £199 when you pre-order before May 5th.

Make sure to use this code: TDX-JGCV

I’ve pre-ordered Mario Kart 8 for £30 (Amazon), getting a free game as well is too good, meaning I’m paying £15 per game. If I didn’t have it already, I would have gone for Monster Hunter as it’s a really great game.

I may donate my code to someone else so that they can get one of these games free. I’ve already got a friend I wouldn’t mind hunting with…

If I can squeeze out the money I might consider getting the Wii U bundle and Wind Waker HD for my wife. I definitely need to get the Wii U for Smash Bros. and Zelda U anyway, and Mario Kart 8 looks totally awesome as well.

Oh man! Why dose the UK get more selection?
I’d gladly take a copy of Lost World!
I guess I’ll settle for Wii Party U then.
(I’m going to get the game regardless.)

Can I also get Zelda U for free if I buy MK8? 😛

This is pretty cool. I’ve wanted to get Wii Party U but didn’t feel like paying full price for it. I have no interest in Pikmin 3 and I have the other two games so this is perfect 😀
