The ’90s gave us some totally rad games. A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time, are a couple come that to mind. Most importantly, we have the ’90s to thank for Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon and Link: The Faces of Evil. In celebration of CD-ii Month, we are featuring musical picks from the ’90s with a CD-i twist.
When my 11-year-old self first heard “MMMBop” by Hanson back in 1997, I immediately fell in love with those three blonde brothers from Oklahoma. Suddenly, I went from president of the Boy-Hating Club to squealing fangirl with their posters plastered all over my bedroom walls. Their music was a refreshing change from the grunge and rap music that dominated the music industry at the time. To this day, Hanson is my absolute favorite band, and their music is guaranteed to put a smile on my face. This week’s Music Monday is “MMMBop: Mah Boi’s remix.”
The time was 1999. It was a different era. Kids went to roller rinks to have fun, Ocarina of Time had just come out, and there was no split timeline to speak of (not to mention three separate timelines). Kids listened to music, desperately thinking about their childhood crush, and I was no exception. This remix of 1999’s “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” by Eifell 65 is a version of a song that meant a great deal to me as a child. It hit the pre-teen population by storm, and was one of the few songs that held some special memories for me and my soon-to-be first girlfriend. Who would have thought that all these years later I would be posting a Zelda CD-i remix of this very song that still means a great deal to me? My pick for today’s Music Monday is “We’re Off (Squa-da-la) EXTENDED VERSION.”
