“Kept you waiting, huh?” Seems like we might be waiting forever for our gravelly voiced stealth-action hero to return to Nintendo’s all-star fighting franchise, as Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima revealed in a Twitch Q&A that he believes Solid Snake is unlikely to appear in Super Smash Bros. 4.

“I’m not working on that game so I don’t know, but I don’t think that’s likely.”

However, if he could make that call, he seems to be highly in favour of it.

“Well if Mr. Sakurai is watching this, please use Snake.”

Considering Kojima doesn’t even know himself at this point, I would agree that, unfortunately, it seems unlikely. Unless that’s just the nanomachines talking and he’s keeping things secret, Patriots-style. Come on, Sakurai — Snake vs. Mega Man match-ups need to happen!

Hideo Kojima and Konami need to bring MGS:V or some sort of HD collection to the Wii U if they want Sakurai and Nintendo to return the favor. Seeing Snake in the new smash would be great, but if he’s in I won’t necessarily miss him.

Amen. If I was Nintendo, I’d tell Kojimi that if he can’t put his games out on Nintendo’s console, then Snake has no business appearing on a Smash Bros. game. It’s pretty unfair when you think about it, since Nintendo is essentially promoting the MGS series through SSB, yet a MGS game haven’t appeared on the Wii, Wii U, or 3DS (other than Snake Eater 3D).

It’s like, why should Nintendo go through the effort to put Snake on a Nintendo-licensed game when Kojimi clearly doesn’t care enough to put his games on Nintendo’s consoles?

      • Jaidyn Reiman

I think its a bit unfair to blame Kojima. Blame Konami; they’re the ones dictating what consoles the games go on. Granted, I think the reason why Kojima hasn’t contacted Sakurai about Snake’s return is precisely because of the fact that Snake really doesn’t have much of a Nintendo following, and so basically he said “if Sakurai contacts me, great, if not, oh well.” That’s kinda my opinion on it.

        • CEObrainz

That’s why I said Kojima and Konami. Apparently sources have reported that Kojima wanted to put the game on Wii U but Konami said no. I’m sure there’s more to it then that but who knows….

          • Jaidyn Reiman

I was replying to Anthony not you. I know you said Kojima and Konami. Anthony only mentioned Kojima and seemed to blame it on Kojima.

“why should Nintendo go through the effort to put Snake on a
Nintendo-licensed game when Kojimi clearly doesn’t care enough to put
            his games on Nintendo’s consoles?”

Sorry, I must have misread it as my own.

  • Jaidyn Reiman

So, yeah, I’ve seen this news already, and honestly it doesn’t surprise me really. Frankly I think they’ll keep Snake’s moveset by adding in an Advance Wars character who can use most of the same moves (I’m thinking Sami personally, although I haven’t played Advance Wars games; I just like the look of Sami and think she’d fit perfect).

  • Ixbran

I do remember reading somewhere Sakurai said cuts were something they were going to avoid, but they would only happen when necessary. So I think they will try to bring back Snake, thought I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t come back.

I’n all honesty I think Simon Belmont would make a better Konami Rep in smash bros over Snake, but thats just me.

    • Jaidyn Reiman

Snake would probably be considered one that’s necessary. Sakurai did say that, but clearly he hasn’t contacted Koijma about it at all. He may have had it in mind to keep Snake if Kojima requested it, but Kojima didn’t contact him (likely because of the lack of Snake’s presence recently) and by this point in time if Kojima still is unaware of Snake’s return, its highly highly doubtful. They probably reused Snake’s moveset for a different character by this point and dropped Snake.

      • Ixbran

Yea I can see them giving his old moveset to someone else, just changing the final smash, specials, the smash attacks, and possibly the grapple attacks.

the whole Neck Snap grab move was kinda … eeehhhh

I hope I’m not the only one who wants to see Nabbit o-o
