Masahiro Sakurai has released the newest Super Smash Bros. Wii U screenshot of the day through Miiverse, this time featuring the newly introduced Little Mac from the Punch-Out!! series and Mega Man. Little Mac was officially introduced as a playable character in Smash during last week’s Nintendo Direct. Little Mac is strong with his punches, and sends Mega Man up into the air with his relentless assault. Do you think Little Mac is a good edition to the Super Smash Bros. character lineup?

“Pic of the day. Little Mac can deliver some solid punches while fighting on the ground.”

Sorry, don’t really like that newcomer. (I’m talking about that Little Mac guy, not Megaman)

    • Anthony Moseley

Oh boo hoo. Little Mac has just as much of a place in Smash Bros. as Mega Man does.

      • Sasori

        Who’s talking about that?

    • LittleGreen

Wow, have you played Punch Out?

      • Sasori

Nope. Guess I was still an infant back then. Does this mean I have no right to not like him or what’s that question about?

        • VladNorris

It does certainly mean you have not enough criteria to make a proper decision. You don’t know the character, how can you say you don’t like him without giving shallow reasons?
To say a character is good or bad, likable or not, the better is to actually KNOW the character.

          • Sasori

            Sorry, I can’t agree to that o-o

He’s a boxer, I don’t like boxing, so why should I need to play a game if I already know I won’t like it? o-o
You guys insisting on me not being able to make that decision is even more shallow.
I like what I like, and I did never intend to make you people feel the same way, what’s so bad about it? o,o

          • Vonter

Empathy? I mean I don’t need to play TLoU to see what people seem to like about that game. But I don’t find it appealing to try. You still could check a match in youtube. Just sayin.

          • Sasori

Might be an option, but I just don’t like boxing, so even if the game was nice, I won’t like it. It’s just totally not my type of game if it’s about boxing.

I’m starting to feel sorry that some people here felt offended by my opinion…

          • Vonter

It’s ok don’t worry. *pats back*

There haven’t been that much characters with appeal. I see most of them already covered and aside from some secondary characters you have to dig to the obscure to show new things. It’ll be like if Mike Jones becomes a new character.

There was also the Wii version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA_PcLyHVuU

          • Sasori

You must be kidding if you think this video would change the mind of somebody without childhood-memories of Little Mac.. I mean, that looks even too lame for an Nintendo-Fan like me..

Can this guy do any moves other than ”avoid -> left punch, right punch, left punch, right punch, left punch, right punch”..?

          • VladNorris

Punch with enough strenght to beat DK isn’t enough for you?
Having a Dr. Hyde-like form doesn’t suffice either.?

          • Sasori

Well, he certainly is more fitting than the Wii Fit Trainer..

        • LittleGreen

It’s kind of early for anyone really to say they don’t like a newcomer. None of us have played any of them for one. For all I know I could hate Little Mac and Mega Man, but right now I just want to try them. I mean if you’d played Punch Out at all you may have some hopes for him or just hate him. It really depends on if we have high familiarity with who the character is in Smash or in their own game. I’m not trying to hate one you, I respect your thoughts but no one can rightfully say they don’t want a newcomer unless you’re one of those people who don’t even try things first

          • Sasori

I don’t intend to try him. I just don’t like boxers and their so called sport, that is all. I didn’t mean to say that I hate the idea of having Little Mac in SSB4, I can just not connect to the fighting-style.

It’s similar to a coffee-freak saying he doesn’t like any kinds of tea, even if there are types he never even tried.

          • LittleGreen

Okay, I get what you’re saying

  • LittleGreen

Don’t quite get what this has to do with Zelda but okay

    • Reece Heather

We cover Smash news as it’s in the interest of most Zelda fans, given that it contains Zelda characters, stages and items. That’s why you’ll also see general news on games like NES Remix or Nintendo Land. πŸ™‚

      • Sasori

By the way.. If Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition get’s available again in europe, too, will you guys report about it as well?

        • Reece Heather

Sure! We’re always straight on stuff like release dates and availability.

  • Vladislak

Wow, putting Little mac next to Mega Man really emphasizes how, er, “little” Mac is.

    Please don’t hurt me Mac. ‘_’;

    • Ryan Haney

Remember, Mike Tyson is 5’10” and towered over Little Mac.

  • Reece Heather

I get that Mac isn’t for everyone, given he’s a niche character compared to some of the others on the roster. However I think he more than deserves a place as a playable fighter. Punch-Out!! was one of the Wii’s greatest highlights, and the original game is one of the few NES games that’s still so accessible and fun to play to this day.

    • VladNorris

He is an important part of Nintendo’s history, of course he’s important. That being said, i do think he seems broken. Bad air maneuverability isn’t a big drawback when you’re most likely never going to use him for air combat, and putting him on air is going to be a monstrous chore with so much moves of him having super armor. Plus, a OHKO you can charge like Samus’ charge beam? If that isn’t in the broken side, I don’t know what it is.

  • Oscar Calderon

Why is mega man so huge??

    • Sasori

      Because he’s a man-murdering killer-robot πŸ™‚
You wouldn’t be scared of him if he was tiny ;D
