A-Link-Between-Worlds-Full-Size-Artwork

Game Informer was one of the first publications to publish a review of A Link Between Worlds, and was also one of a few publications to give the game a perfect 10/10 score. This isn’t the first Zelda game that Game Informer has awarded a perfect score to; Game Informer has awarded a perfect score to three other games in the seriesWind Waker, Twilight Princess,  and Skyward Sword. Game Informer’s history of giving games in the Zelda series perfect review scores prompted a fan of the magazine to send in a question asking whether Game Informer awards perfect scores to a game simply because it is part of the Zelda series. You can read the quote and Game Informer’s response after the jump.

The following question was posed to Game Informer:

“The Legend of Zelda is one of the best franchises ever to exist. Game Informer has awarded a perfect 10 to a lot of them. I love the Zelda games, so I’m not disputing that; I’m just wondering if these games are being awarded their 10s simply for being Zelda. I know that not every Zelda game has earned a 10, but whenever I see a new one coming out, I feel it’s safe to say that it will garner a perfect rating from you guys.”

Game Informer replied by stating that A Link Between Worlds received a perfect score based on its own merits, and not because of the series’ history of receiving high scores:

“Actually, while games in The Legend of Zelda series have generally received high scores, only four have been awarded 10s. No game we review skates by on the merits of its predecessors. The score that A Link Between Worlds received is a testament to the talent of Nintendo’s development team, not the history of the series.”

What do you think of Game Informer’s response? Do you think that the question had merit in being asked? Let us know in the comments!

Of course that they give perfect scores to games just because they’re Zelda games. That’s the only possible explanation for them giving TP and SS a 10.
And they’re far from the only reviewers who love to overrate Zelda games. Heck, I can’t think of a single Zelda game that come out in the latest years and didn’t receive an unfairly high score from most critics.

Maybe because they are good games? I love them.
