The official website for Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U and 3DS systems has confirmed today that Zelda will be a playable character in the upcoming installments in the series. Hit the jump to see some juicy screenshots, as well as one of Zelda’s brand new moves!

Zelda has been confirmed as a playable character for the upcoming versions of Super Smash Bros. and brings with her a possible new move! She can now presumably summon the armor that she uses in Spirit Tracks, as evidenced by one of the screenshots provided by the official Smash Bros. site. While it could just be an Assist Trophy, it could possibly be a Final Smash-like attack as well. It is interesting to see Zelda modeled after her version in Twilight Princess rather than her more recent iteration in Skyward Sword. Could this be a sign of things to come with regards to the new graphical style in Zelda U, or simply a call back to Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Be sure to let us know what you think in the comments section!

And on with the abundance of screenshots:

  • Skull Kid

    That last one looks dirty

    • Quique

3DS version, idk i kind of like the style

      • Skull Kid

I like the style. I am talking bout where his hand is going. And theor faces ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • TheWindWaker333

The phantom knight could be an assist trophy.

    • Morgan

or a final smash attack. who knows until they reveal more.

  • The Doctor

Why the Twilight Princess art style? I was expecting the Skyward Sword style Zelda, but hopefully this means that Zelda Wii U will take on TP-like HD graphics.

    • Morgan

I was really hoping for Skyward Sword Zelda because I do really love the art style in that game, but this may be a sign they’re doing a more realistic Zelda for Zelda U. It’s hard to really say right now though.

      • Akhaten

Not necessarily, it could just mean that they chose this design because Skyward Sword’s Zelda didnt look like a fighter, same goes for link, his design here could be (and probably is) completely is unrelated to the new Zelda for the Wii U…

    • asdfg

I think TP Zelda is more suited for a fighting game. SS Zelda doesn’t look very fierce or strong. Only my opinion, though.

      • Parker

Doesn’t SS Zelda look just as much of a fighter as Peach does?

        • asdfg

But Peach never had a counterpart that looked more badass than she is now. Zelda does.

  • ZeldaCompilations

To be honest, I’m not a big fan of Link’s or Zelda’s styles in the new
Smash Bros. game. I would prefer it if Nintendo would choose a Zelda
game to base the fighters off of, and accurately try to make the
fighters resemble the characters in that game. I think Brawl did a
pretty good job with that, but Link (who I’m assuming is based off of
Twilight Princess Link due to their identical bows), looks nothing like
he did in Twilight Princess, and Zelda looks almost frightening. I would
rather have a Link and Zelda that resemble their Skyward Sword
    incarnations.

    • Demon Zid

I would not want SS Zelda fighting. That’s not her in any way.

  • Parker

This better not be Link and Zelda’s final version. If I wanted to play them in their TP incarnations, I’d just go play Brawl.

    • asdfg

Of course it’s going to be their final version. Why would they make this and then change everything later?

      • craZ

        Anouma says otherwise.

        • Demon Zid

          He said textureee

    • Ixbran

According to google translate: Texture for Zelda is still unfinished. The final version will be much better.
      +~+~+~+~

ohhh, alright, i figured as much, still, very excited to have her back, and in the design i love most <3

    • Ryu

      Are you really Aonuma-san…?

    • craZ

If you’re actually Eiji Anouma, I feel unworthy to reply to this post ๐Ÿ˜€ Keep up the good work, Anouma-san!!!

    • Parker

Wowee zowee if this is official! I hope that means we’ll get the Link and Zelda we were hoping for!

  • norebo

Something’s wrong with her shoulder armor. Look at the first picture, the one with the phantom…

    • Demon Zid

Look at the third screenshot hahah

  • Ryan LaReau

Twilight Princess is my personal favorite Zelda game. I for one would love to see the new Zelda Wii U molded after the Twilight Princess character design. Simply amazing!

  • Elienkae

I see many complaints about Nintendo using Twilight Princess Link/Zelda rather than Skyward Sword. Guys, they probably are using Link and Zelda from Twilight Princess because they want to use Zelda’s Sheik transformation. Granted, Sheik doesn’t appear in TP, but Zelda’s style in that game is more suited for it than Skyward Sword’s would be.

Honestly, they will likely play the same as they did in previous so I don’t see what the big deal is…

    • heroofmasks

if they wanted to use shieks then make zelda from oot3d thats the only zelda to transform tp zelda has no relations with oot zelda ability to transform

  • craZ

Why does it say “Want to know more about Zelda? Chack out A Link Between Worlds”? That should be for a toon Zelda. Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword would have been good.

    • Hylian Monarch

A Link Between Worlds recently came out, so they want to guide people to the most recent game.

  • GreenLinkMaster

O-o OMFG Aonuma in here! *dies* cool beens if it really is Aonuma. anyways. I like the face she is making in the pic where the lady from SM Galaxy is behind her. (was it Rosalin something? or just Rosa? didn’t know she’d be in this game.) the face is silly and alittle more like what you’d expect from a more cartoony character. but it’s cool to see her as a more realistic looking Zelda making that face. ๐Ÿ˜› also the more realistic looking phantom armor is cool as well. reading the article I was having a hard time imaging what it would look like for a TP styled Zelda to be summoning a Phantom from PH and ST.
(and the one photo looks like Zelda slapped DK, which is the idea I’m sure, but funny to.)

  • HyruleHistory10

Idk about Shiek. Shiek was a very big part of how Zelda play in the other two smashs and the fact that she is not shown here leads me to believe that she is not in the game. Also no of her other games specials are here… I wonder if they are doing a redo of her character…

  • Jesse James

What if that phantom is Zeldas new down-B. Then Sheik would be her very own character. That phantom may also be her new B or B-forward. As for the Twilight look, maybe they want Zelda and link to have the same art style. If they bring different costumes to characters (like the male wii fit trainer) I would like to have SS Zelda

  • Demon Zid

I almost certain the Phantom Knight isn’t one of her attacks. The pose she is making in the picture looks like a pose similar to the pose in the second to last picture.

  • Sakura1

Wow, Peach and Link go really well together, it’s great couple ๐Ÿ™ In addition, the fact that couples are to made โ€‹โ€‹according to the same game is too basic, it is better to mix the games to different and unexpected couples! It’s better, thank you nintendo.
