Hey Ash! - Wind Waker

Last month, we featured the latest episode of the online comedy show Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin’?, which explored their perceived version of the life of Wind Waker’s Beedle. It was top notch stuff, which is to be expected from the marvelous siblings Anthony and Ashly Burch. The video was in fact a part of the Nintendo Video Challenge–which HAWP also happened to win.

For their prize, the duo will be heading to the Sundance Film Festival, where they will collaborate with the phenomenal YouTube director, Freddie Wong. This is according to a Nintendo PR email (kindly shared by GoNintendo); more details after the jump!

“The team from HAWP now gets the chance to collaborate with YouTube powerhouse Freddie Wong to produce an original short film inspired by the upcoming Wii U game Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. The new video will premiere in the Nintendo Chalet featuring Wii Fit U at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 16 in Park City, Utah.

The Nintendo Chalet featuring Wii Fit U at the Sundance Film Festival will offer invitees the opportunity to take shelter from the cold weather and play a variety of fun Wii U and Nintendo 3DS games in a warm, welcoming environment. Games featured in the lounge include Wii Fit U for Wii U and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds for Nintendo 3DS.”

While this project may not be Zelda-related, general Nintendo fans may just be in for a treat. The combination of HAWP’s wit and Freddie’s expertise of special effects has me very excited for January 16th. It’s just great news alone to hear that HAWP’s video was recognised with Nintendo’s acclaim.

Not to say the competition wasn’t tough, though; you can catch the full playlist here of the Nintendo Video Challenge, which tasked contestants with creating an original video based on Wind Waker HD or Super Mario 3D World. You might recall Random Encounters’ musical parody and Warialasky’s cover and music video of “Ballad of the Wind Waker”, both featured here last month. I believe they (and I’m sure many other entries) would also be worthy of being crowned the winner.
