Those of who you tuned in to Nintendo Direct today are probably dancing with joy already after Eiji Aonuma announced that not only is Nintendo working on the next Zelda for Wii U, they are also releasing The Wind Waker for Wii U. This game will receive similar treatment to Ocarina of Time 3D in the sense that it’s exactly the same game save for some tune-ups and updated visuals. It will launch around Autumn 2013.

The full list of changes from the original Gamecube version is as follows:

  • Upgraded graphics
  • A tuned up overall game experience
  • Gamepad compatibility (so you can play it off TV)
  • Miiverse compatibility

There are still many questions to be answered about The Wind Waker for Wii U – but no matter how you slice it, it’s a great day to be a Zelda fan.

  • Miyamoto mentioned that the length of the crane on the King of Red Lions is shorter, thus decreasing the time spent searching for undersea treasure chests.
