With all the rumors coming out right before E3, we now have the Wii U’s OS information floating around on the Internet. The rumor is that the Wii U’s OS is “huge, surely never seen before on a normal home system.” It’s supposed to have the biggest software layer for any kind of console platform. In addition, it is rumored to have at least 512 MBs of RAM just for the OS. Even better, the OS is supposed to have updates which will actually lessen the OS memory for more gameplay storage.

i hope this is true. It'd be awesome!

Can anyone explain what "The OS is huge" means? And how does "the OS is supposed to have updates which will actually lessen the OS memory for more gameplay storage." work?

The OS is huge should mean that it is more capable to do different things. A 512MB RAM OS means that it can do a lot at once while the system is running (this beats out PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii). Updates that would reduce the amount of space needed (if the rumor is correct) while allowing it to do the same functions.

Just remember that 512MB of RAM means it can run that much info at once. The actual storage size isn't confirmed.

      • 512MB of ram just for the OS or 512MB for the whole console?

Just for the OS. The actual RAM capacity hasn't been released, leaked, nor confirmed.

Hopefully, there is a hard drive with gigabytes worth of storage space, or some other alternative.

    Thanks for the info.

I hope it has a huge hard drive, too. My 3DS is almost full and I haven't got Link's Awakening, yet. I think I will have to figure out how to move stuff from the 3DS SD card to my lap top.

100gb hardrive max is what any console should need, which really isn't that expensive considering the space. Since I doubt WII U will have movies, their 20gb is fairly acceptable. I do hope they have gamecube games to download, but if they do, I really think they should set the space to 80gb.

As for ram, if the ps3 and 360 can do so good with the minscule amount of space they have, 2GB+ is going to be pretty good. You gotta keep in mind consoles aren't like computers; they don't have any other feature than to play games, although that certainly has changed recently.

Cool, except when Sony and Microsoft release theirs it will be even bigger. Still a step in the right direction.

screw Microsoft and Sony! Nintendo is where the real video games are!

      • A1zeldmaster

Take it easy, man. Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony both produce great games for their systems. Hating doesn't help.

          'all produce'

    Well this sounds grand!
I just hope game developers think the same way.
