“Having played Twilight Princess long, long before touching or hearing of Okami, I will state that anybody who enjoyed Twilight Princess will get a kick out of Okami.” – Jason Rappaport, Zelda Universe owner.

If you’ve been keeping track of ZU for a long time, you’ll probably recognise Okami as a fairly common recurring name, whether from our review of it or from the #1 spot on the Top Five Legend of Zelda Clones list. Basically, it’s a game from the Wii that is very Zelda-like in several ways.

Want to find out more about it? Then you’re in luck, because Chuggaaconroy, creator of our Wind Waker Video Walkthrough, has started one for Okami.

I thought it was interesting that Chugga said that it was kinda like Wind Waker and Twilight Princess at the same time. That's what a lot of people have been saying about Skyward Sword (although I only partly agree with that). Maybe we can use Okami as a tool to predict what will be in the next Zelda game. I know I'm going to watch this entire LP.

Okami is my personal favorite game, while zelda is my favorite series. I recently played it, to help ease the ppain of waiting for Skyward Sword, and it helped. A LOT.

I'm actually playing Okami for the first time now. This game is awesome, although I'm having a hard time using the brush. I'm so getting Okamiden for DS!

  • Okami actually looks more like an offshoot of Wind Waker, graphic-wise, but with the "Shadow Spirit" and the wolf I also see similarities with TP (in addition to the thing hovering above the wolf's back {a.k.a. Midna). Altogether, Okami might be a game I'd like to try out some time. It looks neat.

  • Hey, I authored that Zelda editorial and I just wanted to say thanks for sharing it! I'm a big fan of the work you guys do here, as Zelda is easily my favorite franchise of all time. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing my article!

I played Okami once. It did indeed remind me of Zelda, and at so many different parts of the game too.

Sadly, I have played neither Twilight Princess nor Okami, though I want to sooo badly (especially the former)

  • Toralyx

Just so you guys know, it was a PlayStation 2 game first (it came out in 2006), and THEN was ported to the Wii two years later. So you might want to fix that.

I must be a very strange person.. Zelda is one my my all time favorite series so, hearing Okami was similar, I of course had to try it. Honestly.. I couldn't compare the two.. I personally just did not like Okami at all, give me the real Zelda any day.

Mind you, this is obviously my PERSONAL OPINION. I'm not trying to be a troll. 😛

Exact same happened to me honestly…which was odd. I played the first 3 hours and gave up…

BUT watching Chuggaa's awesome vids has actually inspired me to rent it again this xmas and give it another shot.

Okami is one of the best games I've ever played, give it a try.
There are a lot of similarities to Zelda but this game also got its own charm.
The fighting system is really enjoyable and there is an amazing amount of sidequests to do in this game – with interesting rewards.
But it's true, the beginning is a little bit difficult until you understand the whole concept behind this game so you have to be a little bit patient.

    Okami is a beastly game!

  • Awesome

When will ZU put more chuggaa on?
