It sure has been a while since I’ve updated the mailbag, but I believe I have a pretty good reason why.  But now, I have gotten the urge to dig into the mailbag once again and answer your questions in video format no less!  Even better is I have a complete list of questions you sent in and I answered as much as I could.  So enjoy and hopefully I’ll see you all real soon for another edition.

Make sure you all send in your questions for the next mailbag, whoever is here to update it that is.

{{bubble}{Question 1: WW3DS}{}{}{

Ronniedoo writes:

Hello Zelda universe or the guest Is it possible for a wind waker 3DS

James responds:

It would be possible but not probable. I believe that OOT 3DS is a gimmick to sell the 3DS like Mario 64 did for the original DS. How many other ports did you see on the DS after that? Not too many. I think you would see a new DS Zelda before you saw a port like Wind Waker.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 2: Magic Bar}{}{}{

golbezchaoslord writes:

Why did the magic bar dissappear after windwaker?

James responds:

Just a development decision I guess. It hasn’t hurt any game since in my opinion. The only bad thing it did cause was the Magic Armor in TP. Instead of killing your magic meter, you lost rupees.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 3: Vaati}{}{}{

Vaati135 writes:

Hi Mailbag! Do you think that Vaati will ever return to a Zelda game in the future, and why? I really liked him and I think his boss battles are more fun than those with ganondorf in the 2D games.

James responds:

Well, if Zelda team keeps going backwards in the timeline, then yes you will see Vaati again. But in all likelihood you will see Vaati again, just because he seemed to be well received as a villian when Ganondorf isn’t there.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 4: A Link to the WIIDS}{}{}{

Adam148 writes:

What with OoT 3DS coming soon, and Skyward Sword on it’s way too, do you think Nintendo should give them a link up (3DS to Wii) feature (akin to OoS and OoA) to unlock special features in both games? Like, make items that were exclusive to OoT and SS appear in the other as unlockables for linking the two games, and possibly make references in OoT 3DS to stuff you’ve done in SS.

James responds:

I don’t think that would work on a couple of different levels. When you look back at the Oracle games, the link worked because the games were taking place in the same time period with the same Link. If you link SS and OoT, then the link would only really be one way: from SS to OoT. Granted, the Hero of Time could just travel back to SS and plant your secrets then, but I think that would delay OoT and SS a little more (if they haven’t already thought of this before you asked this).
}}

{{bubble}{Question 5: OOT 3DS}{}{}{

joshua jordan writes:

Do u guys believe the remake of “zelda OOT” for the 3DS will have major revamp’s and changes to all bosses and dungeons or do u believe it will have minor dungeon changes and no changes to bosses like “OOT master quest”?

James responds:

I think it will be along the same lines as Super Mario 64 DS: the same game with the same motives but adding in a couple of small changes so that you aren’t just getting the same game for the 4th time. If you don’t know how this is the fourth time, feel free to go look up the other three.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 6: Gamestop Release}{}{}{

link9326 writes:

do you think that gamestop was correct and that skward sword will be released on april 1? if not, when do you think the game will come out?

James responds:

I will answer your question with just two facts. Video game release dates are usually a Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday, depending on how popular the game will be. Also, if Gamestop announces a release date as the first of the month, 9 times out of 10 it is usually just a guess. I am thinking that Skyward Sword will be release more towards February than April.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 7: SS and TP}{}{}{

Bolero_of_Fire writes:

Do you think Skyward Sword will try to have features resembling to another game like Twilight Princess did, or will everything be fresh and new.

James responds:

Skyward Sword is another Zelda game, so you will definitely see some similarities to most games in the series. But the developers have been saying for a while that they want to change up the Zelda formula, so we will more than likely see some new things in the game.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 8: Instruments}{}{}{

awesomeguy writes:

do you think that the legend of zelda twighlight princess would have benn better if they put in an instrument like the ocarina?whay or why not?

James responds:

Well, technically you did have an instrument, you just only used it seven times in the game. The wolf howl was an instrument in my opinion.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 9: MM Haunted Cartridge}{}{}{

FFTriforceLegends writes:

What do you think about the haunted Majora’s Mask Cartridge Story?
Do you think it’s real or fake?

James responds:

After doing some research on the topic, watching some of the videos, and reading the story, I would have to say that the story is definitely a fake. But a good fake nonetheless. If I were sitting in a darkened room, with nothing on around me, read the story, and watched the videos, I would definitely be creeped out immediately. Of course, I don’t really like being scared so that is probably just me.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 10: Graphics}{}{}{

Hidden Leaf Studios writes:

What was your first reaction when you say the new graphics for skyward sword?
Also, do you think that zelda will ever be sold on other video game consoles???

James responds:

The graphics are alright by me. The order in which a game is great is gameplay, story, then graphics. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love better graphics in a game, but if you can’t play the game or if you have no idea what’s going on, then the graphics don’t matter. It just makes me feel like the developers spent the entire time trying to make the water perfect or this element of the game awesome looking, when in reality you may only see that part of the game twice.

As for Zelda on another console, I have said a number of time before. I don’t think that Zelda will ever be on another console because it is a Nintendo property and they want to see their franchises do well on their own consoles. Just like you will probably never see Halo on a PS3 or Wii.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 11: Misc. Questions}{}{}{

Sexy_Zelda_Chick writes:

where do you guys do this? and when do you think Skyward Sword will come out? Do you think that they will make a Zelda game before Skyward Sword on how there is a “town” in the sky?

James responds:

Do you mean where do we update the site from? Well, we all update the site from around the world. Myself, I update (when I do update) from Massachusetts.

As I said before in the mailbag, I think that SS will come out near February.

Well, we all thought that Ocarina of Time was going to be the beginning of the timeline for a long time, so yes it could be possible for them to go further into the past of the timeline. And for the town in the sky, we did have a city in the sky in Twilight Princess. It is probably either by design or it is actually very high on a cliff. We’ll just have to wait and see how it happens.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 12: WW Zoras}{}{}{

Andrew Weaver writes:

Can you please explain why there aren’t any Zora in the Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker? seeing as the world was flooded, you would like the Zora tribe would have just grown to massive numbers, but yet, the only zora that appeared in the game was the spirit of one of the sages. this makes no sense at all. Can you explain why they aren’t anywhere to be found?

James responds:

This has been one of the most debated topic on that game and maybe the series. Why aren’t there any Zoras in a game where the entire map is water. A lot try to logic that the Zora’s evolved into the Rito’s because Medli’s sage counterpart is a Zora (just like Makar’s spirit was a Kokiri which is a more logical evolution). Unless there is a reason under the sea for the evolution of the Zora (like a giant infestation of a monster we haven’t seen before) then there are either hiding in a part of the map we never visit, or they did just evolve. We may never know.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 13: Cel-Shading}{}{}{

LegendOfHyrule31 writes:

Hey, what’s up? Okay, do you think there will ever be another game with straight Cel Shaded graphics? Would you like it?

James responds:

I think if they continue making sequels to PH and ST, then yes we will see another Cel-shaded game. I like the cel-shading, just because it’s a different style and slightly more cartoony. It gives the series balance. The realistic graphics games tend to be slightly darker, while the cel-shaded games are slightly lighter in tone.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 14: WW Sages}{}{}{

SixMultipliedByNine writes:

Why are there only two apparent sages in the Wind Waker? Is Zelda supposed to be the third or something? It seems as though I’m either missing something or there really ought to have been a third.

James responds:

If I am not mistaken, there were supposed to be more dungeons in the game, which would have caused an extra sage to be added in. If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that Jabun wasn’t supposed to just give you the third pearl. You were supposed to earn it after going through a third dungeon just like the other two pearls. Also, there was supposed to be a third sage and another temple to accompany them as well. But, for some reason, the development team decided to scrap both and make the game as we know it. So, to add on to question #1 in this mailbag about WW 3DS, this would be the only way that a WW 3DS would be made. If it was made the way it was supposed to be made in the beginning, with the extra temples and sages.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 15: Hard OOT 3DS}{}{}{

metaknight2011 writes:

For OOT 3DS, do you think they’ll make the temples harder or leave them alone for nostalgia sake?

James responds:

They will be left alone for nostalgia sake. As I stated before, it will be ported similarly to Super Mario 64 DS, as the game will be exactly the same, only with a few slight differences.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 16: OOT 3DS MQ}{}{}{

FFTriforceLegends writes:

Do you think the Remake of Ocarina of Time 3DS will have an unlockable Master Quest mode?

James responds:

I don’t think that Master Quest will make an appearance in the game at all. I think that will be left to the Gamecube bonus disc. I also don’t know how much you can fit onto a DS cartridge, so whether it’s possible or not is another question in itself.
}}

{{bubble}{Question 17: Delay Time}{}{}{

Errorjack writes:

Why do you think Skyward Sword is taking a while for a release if they did indeed finish and is only polishing it?

James responds:

I think they are putting some finishing touches on the game and then polishing up the graphical aspect and working out the bugs with the testers, and then translating it into english so that we can actually play it over in the states.

{{bubble}{Question 18: Internet Time Machine}{}{}{

PhantomBPR writes:

Hi Zelda Universe, I’ve been a devoted fan of this website for many years, and I’ve seen you guys grow into what you are now. I’m currently researching the Zelda Timeline again, and one of the most inspirational timelines I can remember reading was an older one you guys did a few years back during Version 13 of your website.

I would love to get my hands on that timeline again, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Do you guys happen to have that page deep in the archives? If so, I would greatly appreciate it if I could take a look at it.

If not, no hard feelings. Thanks for reading this. Keep up the good work!

James responds:

I am going to refer to this website: The Internet Archive. This allows you to view a websites prior versions. Just type in the web address for the timeline page, and see if you can find it that way. If not, we may have to look and see if we actually have a copy of the prior timeline somewhere.

    Oh my god! Hi James! It's been forever! what's up! well, duh, what a stupid question, of course I know what's up, your a daddy! Congratulations! your daughter is so cute!

    actually, this is the 5th time OoT is being released 1-N64 2-collector's edition 3-master's quest 4-virtual console.

    I never heard about the haunted MM cartridge, what's that about?

    okay, see ya next week James! Bye Lily!

    • I'm surprised to see you never heard of the haunted MM cartridge; it was a pretty big topic about a month to three weeks back. But instead of having you hunting it down, I can tell you a little bit about it. Basically, this kid said he got this cartridge of Majora's Mask from an old man whose grandkid, Ben, died from drowning, and Ben's spirit was told to live in the cartridge. The kid who got the cart, though, didn't believe it and just plugged it into his N64. But already saved on the game was a file titled BEN.

      He decided to play off that, and when he entered the game, strange things started happening. Things like putting the Zora's Mask on and then diving, but instead of swimming, Link would die right off. Or,as if by a glitch, Link would spontaneously play the Elegy of Emptiness and statues of him would pop up all over the place. Soon enough, the player found this eerie and recorded these mishaps (you can likely find them on Youtube).

      A lot of people just believe the kid hacked into the game, though I haven't heard anything about that myself. It's just interesting to think that a ghost is inhabiting a video game and controlling it, much like Majora possessed her wearer/puppet.

      • James

        The kid did hack in a sense into the game. What you are seeing is a ROM version of the game and he is debugging the hell outta of it. There is a video on Youtube that shows how some of it was done. Check it out.

      • ChainofTermina

        uh huh. I actually do think I remember them talking about this on the podcast once, but I didn't know the details. that's pretty spooky. but why would a ghost inhabit a videogame cartridge when there's so much more you can do as a ghost?

        um, wait, "Majora possessed HER wearer/puppet"? Majora's a girl!?

        • Majora is considered to be female, yes. I won't go into any details, but you have to look at her incarnation forms to see what the evidence suggests.

          • ChainofTermina

            um Thareous, where exactly did you reach this conclusion? Did you actually learn this some where or did you come up with it on your own? I only ask because I have never heard anyone else refer to Majora as a girl, and it seems like that would have come up somewhere.

            and simply being skinny and dancing around making high pitched noises isn't really enough to determine a gender. 😉

          • I got this from a Hylian Dan article, reading from the Articles section (of course ;D) to see what other stuff he came up with. I wish I remembered the name of the article, as for stuff appears to have been added. Anyhow, in it he covered how Majora's Incarnation had almost feminine indications (I'm sorry everyone, but I just want to answer his question): a fetal area and a slightly curved chest. Based on this evidence, I honestly believe Majora was female.

    • James

      I ALWAYS forget the Virtual Console version of the game, as I don't use as much as most others.

  • Congrats on making fatherhood, James, and welcome back! I always loved the way you put your thoughts together before the hiatus, and you're still able to answer them with ease. Still doing great at these.

    Many happy years to you, your wife, and Lilly!

    • James

      Replies like this always make me want to continue doing this! I love to answer questions, and I have since I started doing this in 2002! Thank you very much for the well wishes as well.

  • Your daughter is adorable! I love babies.

    About Question 12: I was thinking, could it be that Zoras are freshwater creatures while oceans are salty? In the real world, nearly all fish can be conditioned for either environment if done properly, but it could be a good excuse for the game’s sake.

  • StephenStills

    I'm fairly new to this website, and I don't think I've seen anything from you, James. You did a great job, though! I look forward to seeing more of you on this website.

  • Errorjack

    I did, but the question I asked wasn't the one I was really looking for. I asked about Ganon/dorf being in the next game. I personally think he will be because all 3D games with the Master sword have Ganon/dorf in it.

  • Quest_for_Glory

    Sweet mail bag update. Looking forward to the next one.

  • ILiekZelda

    Never heard of James before, and congrats on the baby!

    • QueenxLink

      Ha, I know right?

      • James

        You guys need to get out more then.

        • ILiekZelda

          Lol don't you mean IN?Get out more means less computer lol….

          • James

            I was just using the expression. My bad.

            Yes, stay in and watch more mailbags.

          • ILiekZelda

            That is a done deal!

  • James

    Why thank you!
