Our friends over at Zelda Informer posted a list of rumors yesterday that they’d found on a German gaming forum. These rumors made the usual rounds on the internet, but we’d passed on reporting on this as the rumors had no verifiable source.

However, Zelda Informer has since gone the extra mile to contact the individual who posted the rumors on the German forum, who then redirected them to a different forum, citing it as the source of the rumors.

It would appear that the origin of the rumors is a German individual who claims to be friends with Eiji Aounuma’s German language instructor, preparing our favorite producer for E3. Mr. Aounuma’s strange need for a German language instructor at an American presentation may be the cause of a bit of skepticism, but the originator of the rumors claims that this German language instructor revealed these secrets and is now appalled that they are out in cyberland.

Keep in mind that these rumors are just that- rumors- and may or may not turn out to be true come Tuesday. Hit the jump to read them all.

  • Zelda Wii’s official title is “The Legend of Zelda”. There will be no subtitle.
  • The game tells a story several hundred years before Ocarina of Time.It also answers the question of how the Mastersword came into being.
  • The fairy-like girl plays is a very important character in the game. Her Name is Zordiana.
  • The Hookshot is also in the game and it has new abilities. It will not pull you immediately to the target you aimed. Now it is possible to swing with the Hookshot, like with the Grappling Hook from WW. The Hookshot makes no use of Wii Motion Plus.
  • Sometimes you have to “draw” a specific symbol on a door with your sword, to open it.
  • The Bow-Control is very similar to the Bow-Control in Wii Sports Resort, as the script shows.
  • There are two levels of difficulty. Aonuma put it through. Miyamoto didn’t want to include it.The Normal-Mode for amateurs. The Hero-Mode has no “Super Guide” included and the enemies tougher.
  • The On-Stage Dungeon, which is also playable at E3, isn’t a Dungeon as we know it from the Zelda series. When entering a Dungeon, you will not notice you are in one. It will be a smooth gradation. There will be Dungeons with no Bosses and Bosses with no Dungeon. The “Dungeon” you are able to play at E3 will be an Ice-Level. It will be the frist “Dungeon” in the Game.

Noooooooo, I don't like half of these, this is what I hate about new games, a lot of times they have things you don't like in them. Nintendo may be able to do these well, but I just wouldn't like it i my opinion, I guees it matters how nintendo uses the things on these rumors. But, the bow like wii sports resort? Noooooooooooooo.

No bad stuff except for the first line. If the title is just 'The Legend of Zelda", then we would probobly get confused as to which "The Legend of Zelda" game you are talking about when someone brings it up in a conversation. "Hey i absolutely love The Legend of Zelda!" "Oh me too! What game is your favorite?" "Umm The Legend of Zelda?" "Oh! ~Is thinking about original~ So original…. Brings alot of memories back in my younger days, huh?" "Um? It just came out yesterday what are you talking about?"

That last one seems very frightening at this point. But who knows? It could be an interesting change that works.

    • ZeldaNoob

The last one is actually good, a dungeon is for fit into the enviroment. Not being able to notice if its a dungeon or not. Bosses without dungeons, dungeons without bosses. That could spice up the game. An Ice temple? Does that mean link is starting off in the mountians?

    • LoZ

This makes sense though. One of the other rumors said that the game wouldn't rely on the dungeon-field-dungeon-field format. Bosses with no dungeons and dungeons with no bosses would spice it up, I think.

Because with a boss at the end of each one, it gets too predictable of what you have to do to kill it. In every game, you always use the item you got from the mini boss to kill the main boss, and it gets too easy.

  • ZeldaTheoristb211

I am so glad that this game takes place before OOT and not after it, I don't know why people are so disappointed. But I can understand name – wise why people would be. The Legend of Zelda might confuse people when are referring to any timeline placements. This game will also feature the origins of the MS, which means that this game will talk the about the Seal War that is featured in ALTTP.

  • slaveofsanity

I kind of like the dungeon idea. It is a very scary concept, seeing I love big epic dungeon settings, but I believe they can do it, and it would be very refreshing if done right. Idk, we'll see what's true and what's not. :/

  • LinkFan

a common misconception when placing games in the timeline is that Ocarina of Time is not the first game in the timeline but that is not true as The Hero of Time HAS to be the first hero seeing he was raised in the kokiri forest and garbs the kokiri tunic which was passed down to other heroes

    • Dawnfire

I believe that the same is said of The Minish Cap, as explains where the heritage of Links Hat started.

Actually, the Hero of Time in Ocarina of Time technically isn’t the first one. When Sheik meets Link right after he awakens from his seven year sleep, Sheik says (rough quote), “Seeing you standing there with the Master Sword in hand, you truly do look like the legendary Hero of Time.” Based on that quote alone, that implies that there was a Hero of Time before this one, making Ocarina of Time NOT first in the series.

    • mclennon

I often thought that too, but i later assumed that sheik said that because there was a prophecy about a hero who would travel through time using the master sword and save hyrule. I'm not sure whether that quote really means there was another before the hero of time but it could.

    • Guest

      I'm sorry, but…

I thought we all knew Ocarina of Time wasn't the first in the series? Considering there's A Link to the Past, and Legend of Zelda itself?

No sub-title? I call bs. We already have a game title "The Legend of Zelda" and unless they want to claim this is some sort of remake…then we're getting a subtitle. Just imagine:

    "I'm playing LoZ"
    "which one?"
    "LoZ"
    "Original or Wii?"
    "Wii"

    yeah, um…No.

    • Jason Rappaport

Tell that to the Prince of Persia people! The correct way to say it would end uf being "Legend of Zelda 2010", just as the new PoP was called, colloquially, "Prince of Persia 2008".

      • NorthApple

Heh, if this is true, then I think it might just end up keeping its current nickname of "The Legend of Zelda Wii" aka ZeldaWii XDD

        • Dawnfire

Yeah, I think it'd just be "Zelda Wii". In fact, the same way Super Mario 64 just tacked that onto the end, they may end up tacking the "Wii" on. That would not technically be a subtitle.

      • karadom

        And the terrible Sonic 2006..

    • X x7

well, Id just change it and call it zelda I compared to the legend of zelda.

I was just talking to my friend about this YESTERDAY. The dungeons thing that is pretty much through the overworld, its how the first few trailers of TP looked. I was so excited for that. If this is true, I have just gained so much respect for this game. Please let the dungeon thing be true. Everything else I don't care, but we need a change in gameplay. The new dungeon thing would be awesome in my opinion. More exploratory really when you think about it. Which is what Zelda was meant to be.

  • Karadom

Ugh…I better practice Wii sports Resort archery…

  • joshua

i think that these rumors are stupid first having no subtitle is stupid it is like saying that this zelda is going to be the last an ofcource no one wants it to be the last zelda we still want more zeldas second going back before ocarina of time is going to be boring who want to go back people want to go to the next link and third it would be way better if all the zelda games from ocarina of time to twilight princess to wind waker all become connected some way and the current link goes from time to time through each game using the temple of time and collects all the other links to reunite and beat gannon that would be a great game not going before ocarina of time

    • Ummm Dude. That just sounds really mediocre.

It sounds like a bastardised version of the Four Swords games. But worse.

The Seal War sounds interesting if that was what it's based around. And I'd like a game Ganon isn't in.

And why would he tell HIM all the big secrets.
This kinda stuff happen every E3.

    • Jin

They need several language instructors. It's entirely possible that he has one for say the Leipzig Expo, or just German reporters in general that will be at E3. And the reason he would tell him these secrets is because they are most likely practicing this for E3 to make interviews go more smoothly.

Still doesn't mean this is true though. I'm not even going to bother getting excited about this as we'll all know the truth in 2 days anyways.

    • Foh

Yeah, I'm not sure I believe this. Let's just continue to call it rumors and not put any faith in it.

    My thoughts:

The Legend of Zelda (no subtitle) — LIKE! I’ve gone on record since last E3, I think this will be THE first chronologically, with a fledgling monarchy and a newly-forged Master Sword. In my story idea, I proposed that Zelda is just born at the end. By going subtitle-less, you’re emphasizing its focus on the timeline and the genesis of the Legend.

  • Spy6708

Is there a good estimate of a release date yet? I'm a fan of all the games and eager to play

  • capt. link

well, if it REALLY has no subtitle, then it won't be the first game in the series because of "zordiana" (what a horrible name)(i still think it's adelle).

  • TheMaverickk

Personally they feel bogus. Zordiana really is a lame name… also note that is seems to purposely sound like Sword mixed with Diana. It feels too forced compared to names that have been present in past Zelda games. Adelle was a much more convincing name… although the name thing could be a discrepancy considering that the guy is from German working in Kyoto… possible language barrier? (apparently they had to have someone translate this and everything).

Some points are believable though. The possibility of the game being an origin story on the Master Sword is fairly probably considering that the importance of the missing sword in the picture has been emphasized. Although I don't necessarily believe that this Zelda happens several hundred years before Ocarina of Time… since an origin story doesn't have to be told through the past. The game having no Subtitle after "The Legend of Zelda" is harder to believe. Simply because then there would be confusion between it and the original The Legend of Zelda… people might mistake the game for a remake of the original. Which is something I think Nintendo would want to make sure is clear.

Stuff like the sword being used to carve into a door in order to open it isn't anything new either. They are just transferring elements from PH and ST on the DS over to the Wii (both games came after TP so they would be keen to introduce these new elements into a console Zelda). The bow working like Wii Sports Resort archery isn't new either… Miyamoto talked about the fact that these elements were being considered in the next Zelda.

I think the source is bogus, but the points it highlights are highly likely. Something that anyone could've predicted based on Miyamoto and Anouma . Only time will tell though, just two days to go. I'm excited to see and hear anything related to Zelda Wii though.

  • Zeldaddict86

I seriously doubt this is true, but some of these things seem likely.

And also, Zordiana, reminiscent of Power Rangers, is it not?

    • TheMaverickk

Isn't that Zordon who heads the Power Rangers? Also the robots that the Power Rangers control are called Zords right? Can't remember it's been ages.

  • Alkunkunka

    I really want a sub-title. Let's wait and see.

  • It's really interesting coming across rumours like these. It's going to be interesting seeing how it turns out.

Guys, if you think that Nintendo naming the game "The Legend of Zelda" is a bad thing, just remember that it's happened in other games before. For example, "Sonic the Hedgehog" on the 360 and PS3 is almost always differentiated from the original by referring to it as "Sonic 2006" or something similar. (It's also differentiated in man other ways, but they are negative, so let's not get into that) Who's to say we can't refer to this as "Zelda '10" or something?

  • Jac7b

DO NOT WANT half of these.

  • TheMaverickk

Come on though… having to refer to a a game name as Zelda 10, or Zelda 2010… or something is kind of lame. Also it’s a bad sign considering that look how Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 turned out.

Overall I know it simply being titled “The Legend of Zelda” doesn’t really matter. I just think this person who made this claim did it because the official art released last year just says Legend of Zelda on it. Also a name could easily be added at the last minute. Naming something is never final till it’s on the way for release. Still like I said I think who ever said that these are legit facts, made them up based on what’s already known.

  • LizMara

The name of the game is just going to be "The Legend of Zelda?" Won't people confuse it with the first game? Or are we suppose to stick to just calling it Zelda Wii or Zelda 2010? Hopefully Nintendo won't do the same thing as they did with Sonic 06 since the title is the same as the first game in the franchise. Well, personally I doubt it anyways.

Also, what's with the girl's name from the poster being "Zordina"? Maybe since this is coming from a German forum the name over there is different. Just like how Midna's name in English is Midna and her name in Japanese is Madona or Midona, which ever you spell it. In other countries, some names of characters sometimes don't even sound close to the original. Oh well.

  • SRWG

I’m all for the nonsubtitled name, as I actually enjoyed Sonic 06 despite all its faults.

I just want some damn originality.

    • Chainoftermina

you DID!? oh, wow, I thought I was the only person on earth who liked that game. yeah, the game play sucks and the story is extremely weak, but I like it too. cool.

  • Abodos

The name that they have for the sidekick is really lame; as others have pointed out, it sounds like what a character in a bad fanfiction story would be named. The dungeon format they mentioned actually feels like it could work, but I would have thought that Nintendo had something more clever up their sleeves for the dungeons than that.

The one point that makes me the most skeptical about these rumors, however, is the point that says that Miyamoto didn't want different difficulty levels. I'm pretty sure that it was Miyamoto who wanted the Super Guide and Cosmic Guide to be included in NSMBWii and Galaxy 2 respectively. That point just seems to conflict with Miyamoto's whole game design philosophy.

  • * Zelda Wii
’s official title is “The Legend of Zelda”. There will be no subtitle.

    This is very possible

    * The game tells a story several hundred years before Ocarina of Time.It also answers the question of how the Mastersword came into being.

I like this idea, XD cause this means possibly ganon can STILL be in it, not Gerudo form, but the demon ganon, OR someone in connection with him so that the master sword needs to be forged.

    * The fairy-like girl plays is a very important character in the game. Her Name is Zordiana.

Well, im not keen on the name but you gotta figure, nintendo has been selling out their characters for money instead of loving their creations, so a name like this, tho seems like its unique, might have no thought behind it or be purposuly obvious and semi-generic.

    * The Hookshot is also in the game and it has new abilities. It will not pull you immediately to the target you aimed. Now it is possible to swing with the Hookshot, like with the Grappling Hook from WW. The Hookshot makes no use of Wii Motion Plus.

I guess this is okay, it depends, it could be a pain in the butt, remember its not cel shaded and diluted, so it could take FOREVER to get the hookshot controls down.

    * Sometimes you have to “draw” a specific symbol on a door with your sword, to open it.

This I don't like, stick this feature with the cel shaded link games, this is just trivial and well.. what am I paying 50$ to draw? (lol im an artist)

    * The Bow-Control is very similar to the Bow-Control in Wii Sports Resort, as the script shows.

Never played, Im shaky as hell so does this mean like, its gonna be impossible for me to shoot, and its obviously not the crossbow because remember, technology evolved in TP and this is, what? 200 years before that?

    * There are two levels of difficulty. Aonuma put it through. Miyamoto didn’t want to include it.The Normal-Mode for amateurs. The Hero-Mode has no “Super Guide” included and the enemies tougher.

Miyamoto is hitting a nerve, There are more xbox and sony fans because they understand the "audience" for their games ( XD studied this in my IT shop)
not everyone that plays wii is 5, maybe we'd like a challenge, like in Tp, ganon was extremely easy to beat and it was just embarrassing to his character.

    * The On-Stage Dungeon, which is also playable at E3, isn’t a Dungeon as we know it from the Zelda series. When entering a Dungeon, you will not notice you are in one. It will be a smooth gradation. There will be Dungeons with no Bosses and Bosses with no Dungeon. The “Dungeon” you are able to play at E3 will be an Ice-Level. So no bosses, so.. we're walking through traps and mazes, and bosses not in a dungeon… lol CONFUSING, but what do i know, it could be interesting

conclusion, These rumors bear some fruitful ideas, and some distasteful, but thats what a rumor is, I really doubt we'd get our hands on info SO close to E3
but hey maybe, nintendo don't dissapoint
im not a good critic, lol im only 18 but i kno my zelda XD more specifically ganondorf hehe <3 anyways please E3 come faster and make us all LOVE the new game, peace fans

  • Chainoftermina

yeah, no. no, I don't think any of these are true. well, okay maybe one or two. the gradual starting dungeon sounds cool, as well as this being the origin of the master sword. the difficulty level choosing sounds good, but everything else is just stupid. No, there HAS to be a sub tittle. I mean, then people would still call it Zelda Wii, or Zelda 2010. and Nintendo wouldn't let that happen. and that gotta be one of the dumbest names I've ever heard, Zordiana? No, I think it's Adelle. yeah, I think this whole "German Translator" stuff is a bunch of crap. I don't accept these. I liked the last list of rumors better.

  • ApocolypticMuffin

I don't like the "no subtitle" rumor. It reminds me too much of Sonic '06.
Also, no Wii Sports Resort-like bow controls! I hated that game, and trying to hit enemies in the heat of battle that way would just be atrocious!

  • triforcelinkz

Does that mean that Ganondorf is actually NOT the final boss in this game… since chronologically it wouldn't make sense to have him since he first appeared in OOT. Will it be some force stronger than Ganondorf that forced the creation of the Master Sword in the first place? This is quite new and I actually can't wait to see where Eiji Aonuma is gonna take this

  • RedsX

Zordina? Any relations to the big head in a tube?

  • Jac7b

also, you can tell these are fake because they say "hero mode will have no super guide." they've taken it too far. fake.

  • ooccoowarrior

I don't know I'm rather skeptical about this. I would love to see some of them come true. All we have to do is wait and see though. I think is Miyamoto is trying to be so secret about it the last person he would tell is his German language instructor. But I like the fact that is is supposed to come before OoT because that will screw up a lot of theories.

  • Mr. Poajn

You guys are hilarious. Rumors hit the net and almost everyone is already dropping "THEY CHANGED IT NOW IT SUCKS" bombs.

By the time E3 rolls around, I'm gonna have a great time watching the reactions from this. Because one of two things will happen:

"ITS THE SAME NOW IT SUCKS"

    or

"THEY CHANGED IT NOW IT SUCKS"

Depending on what happens, this could turn out to be the most lulzy drama since the Great Wind Waker Incident. As soon as those pictures hit the web, everyone said it was going to suck. And once I actually got to play the game, it became one of my favorite Zelda games.

So, whether these rumors are true or not, I'm gonna hold my opinion of the game until I ACTUALLY PLAY IT, no matter what "everyone" says about it.

  • Hannerz

Like Mr. Poajn said, this is very similar to what happened with the hype over Wind Waker. Honestly, it was the best of the games because it entertained me the most. Whatever Nintendo does, we as fans have to respect it & deal with it.

Besides, I know most of you are gonna end up buying the new game no matter what everyone else says.

  • TheMaverickk

    If this game actually ends up being a prequel to Ocarina of Time (something I actually think is a really great idea) I hope that they do at least these few following things;

    1. Remove Ganondorf from the equation… Ganondor/Ganon technically shouldn't exist as Ocarina of Time was essentially his origin story. How he came into being and so forth.

    2. Change the appearance of Link a bit more. From I can tell of the concept art that was shown at last E3, Link looks pretty much exactly like the Link introduced in Twilight Princess… maybe with a more matured appearance. If this is hundreds of years before Ocarina of Time, then this Link should visually look different. So if it's the case I hope they've made a few graphical/visual style changes to this Link (remember how much Link GCN changed when it became Zelda, so it is possible they've already altered his appearance).

In either case these are the two important things I think they should do if they are in fact doing a prequel to Ocarina of TIme. In reality I just can't wait to see what they create.

    • TheMaverickk

I also wanted to add that I actually do hope they change the visual style in this game. If it ends up looking similar to Twilight Princess I'll be a little disappointed actually. I was thinking it would be cool to see a sort of psuedo animated realism… similar to the graphical style of say The Last Guardian… either that or like a more adult cel-shading thing, with Prince of Persia 2008 had… obviously though the gameplay needs to be top notch.

      Basically I just want change.

Yea its definate BS on the title at least, their is no way its just "the legend of zelda" because the first game is called "the legend of zelda" and they are not going to 2 games with the same title even if it was a remake. Can't tell for sure about the other rumors, but they could be false too.

  • bstarter29

I had a feeling there wasn't going to be a subtitle (there still could be though). I've been thinking that Nintendo is going with just LoZ.

I like the timeframe if it's true, and I'm very intrigued by the smooth transitions of dungeons.

    Only about 36 hours away….

I'm sorry but i'm one of these people that look forward to the boss fight at the end of each dungeon. It just makes since to me that if you have an itme in a dungeon or the dungeon is needed to get someplace else, you would want a guard of some renoun put there to guard it. The stronger the better.

I like the whole dificulty aspect of it. Most enemys seemed pathetic to me in recent games (I wouldn't mind something like a reguler version and master version like they did with the OoT remake but thats just me).

I also really like that this is before OoT as apposed to after. (I have an alterior motive for this and not just a better understanding for the storys origins).

They really need a subtilte unless they want to torture gamers with intense confusion. Something Like LoZ: Origins.

I liked the TP method of shooting and the old hookshot. >.< That is something that I intensely dislike.

No one seems to like Zordiana as the name of the girl, but i remember that no one liked arbiter´s grounds as the name of a dungeon when it was leaked, and it finally came to be true.

the rumors are all right. hopefully we will get a sequel to twillight princess my favorite zelda (excluding ocarina). that zordiana could possibly be a character like Navi and Midna

  • Steelslasher

a lot of this rumours are plausible, the first one is almost definite if this is set 100 years prior to ocarina of time then it would make sense for this to be THE LoZ

    • TheMaverickk

Yeah except that Ocarina of Time was to be THE prequel to Link to the Past, the original LoZ and AoL. So with that thought… if every prequel is to be considered THE Legend of Zelda, then they would've called the Ocarina of Time, simply The Legend of Zelda. Also what would happen they decide to do a prequel to this Legend of Zelda, since Nintendo doesn't generally create games with the intention of the story progression simply progressing forward into the future time wise.

I think this person has simply made this conclusion based on there being no name under the art released last year. Much similar though when Twilight Princess was first announced with it's first epic trailer it was still simply titles The Legend of Zelda.

  • hero of twilight

i really hope the first ones are true and this game is before ocarina becasue it will be first in the time line and that will just be epic

  • Zeldarules

I don't believe the rumor that it takes place a few hundred years before OOT.
One of the problems with some of the rumors We've been getting is that they are contradictory, I believe the first rumors that came out of 2chan about the models of Link, Epona, and a goron being used. They just make alot of sense because in the poster Link looks a heck of alot like the TP model of Link.
Both of the rumors can't be true because it can't be that Link is OOT Link, and some other Link from before. I also trust 2chan because they have been right before, the guy who leaked this could be just …some guy.

If He is a different Link I have these questions, why is he wearing the kokiri tunic? Why is Epona in the game?

That is however, the only rumor that I have a problem with, the other ones sound plausable.

    and remember,
    ZELDARULES!!!

I just wanted to at, that's it's highly unlikely that new Zelda Wii won't use motion plus.
They haven't created it for nothing. I expect all new big titles to require motion plus.

I think Nintendo should go as far into the future as LOZ can without getting modern.
If we keep going back I could see:
    "CHATUNGA! FIRE! YOU MAKE LANTERN!"
"DA DA DA DAAAAA! You got a stick! Use it to poke things!"

Also, Bosses with no dungeons? OK
Dungeons with no bosses? NO WAY JOSE!

    I HATE THE NAME ZORDIANA!!
Anyway, why wouldn't they put a subtitle, And, if we are on a quest to gather pieces of something, how would we get it if there is no boss? I hate this dungeon idea. And why would it come before OOT? The Link from OOT is clearly the original Hero of Time. I HOPE THESE NEVER SHOW UP IN ANY ZELDA GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Casey

i hate most of these.. God let them all be false! I need to find out tomorrow

  • LoZ

Before Ocarina of Time? That sounds pretty interesting because it would tell us how Hyrule came to be. And I'm mostly thinking about how the sages create the Master Sword.

The Master Sword is major in this series, and it seems to me that it will give Hyrule more depth if we know the earlier parts of its history. It makes the story seem more real and likable.

Video games usually don't make me feel very much emotion, but that's why I love the Legend of Zelda. It makes me naturally care about the characters and I can't help feeling nervous when I'm walking up the stairs to Ganondorf.

Mario is entertaining, but I just wasn't into Super Mario Galaxy because of its extremely simple story. Zelda feels like a really good book, and I absolutely love feeling confused by its complex parallel timeline.

  • the no subtitle doesnt sond very nice. BUT, the smooth transition dungeons sound like a good idea. thats kinda how it is in Okami (which is a GREAT zelda like game if any of you have ever played it) and the whole boss thing. true, its a break from tradition, but hey, sometimes change is good.

I'm interested with the dungeon thing. It looks pretty awesome. Also, with the game telling how the Master Sword came into being, I'm pretty excited. BUT ZORDIANA SUCKS. And no subtitle? pft, that's why I think those are fake.
