Zelda is one of the oldest and most successful series still alive today. With each new title using elements from the previous games, the series advances while remaining enjoyable. With all of the similar elements used in each games, could we look at the series’ rich history to predict its future?

IGN decided to delve into the history of Zelda in an attempt to predict what the next Zelda game might be like. They list and explain many great ideas that should return, such as a second quest after finishing the game (originally implemented in the original The Legend of Zelda) or time traveling, in order to “perfect the next title”. They also point out that some items, like the Roc’s Cape and Pegasus boots, should return as well.

It’s also worth mentioning that they propose the return of a few RPG elements which were originally introduced in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, such as the idea of earning points after defeating enemies in order to upgrade weapons, health, magic, and so on. It could make the gameplay a little more focused on combat, and is also considered a neat customization tool for the game.

Take a look at the article and, while you’re at it, be sure to express any ideas you have on what elements you’d like to see return to the series.

I thought Nintendo said that the new zelda games would be all different than they have been. TP was the last Zelda game that followed the traditional formula, or something like that. looking back at Zelda's past doesn't seem like the way to predict it's future if we know it's going to be different. or i don't know , whatever.

Another quest after the initial story? I like the sound of that. I also think adding items from the handheld console games would be awesome! As a last thought I wouldn’t mind the upgrades on magic and health.

i think the RPG thing would be a little wierd, but i like it still. I do want the old items to return though, time travel, and so on. that would be cool.

Ha,I read this at IGN earlier today!I agree with most of it except for the RPG thing, seeing as The Adventure of Link is my least fevorite Zelda game and it would just be weird and boring.

I'd prefer if they threw in more sidequests for the item upgrades; mashing the B button only stays fun for the first two hours or so, and it would suck if you needed a level two boomerang or something to get to the next dungeon and had to spend six hours hunting down monsters just to get to the next level. I loved the whole trading sequence thing, and minigames are always fun, so if there were upgrades available I'd prefer if that was how you could get them.

I think that this is a good idea because most people haven't played the older Zelda games and want to see what they are like.Like my friend who is not much of a Zelda fan but if she saw all the older games, she'd be fascinated.

the zelda II point system would be a GREAT addition in zelda wii.
roc's cape isnt a need, link never jumps when you tell him to, only over cliffs
